Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

I think they've already made up for FO76. The people playing it now seem to like it quite a bit, and it's still going, so I don't know how much of an effect that will have on anything. It seems they addressed most of the complaints. The ES:Blades thing is just some mobile garbage, that I really don't think reaches any further than the mobile market. Console/PC gamers know what's up with that bullshit. Same with that "Vault" fallout game.

I think their biggest mistake, even though it was still decent, was "Fallout 4". That was the one game where they felt a little stuck in the mud, and didn't deliver the mind blowing product people had become accustomed to. I mean, that was supposed to be a game of a generation, like what came before, and it was just kind of "meh". It looked dated, had tons of performance issues, made some unwanted changes to the RPG mechanics, and just felt a bit like a glorified expansion to the franchise. It didn't blow anyone's mind, and I think most would agree was a bit of a letdown overall.

I guess I agree somewhat about Fallout 4. It definitely wasn't the game I was expecting and didn't deliver on the same level as FO3 or NV. But it was still maybe my most played game of the generation (close between that, Witcher 3, and Breath of the Wild) and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Who knows if they even plan to make another Fallout or just expand upon 76. Sounds like maybe Obsidian could get a crack at making a proper sequel.

I can't speak too much to 76, I bought it last black Friday, a full year after release. It was one of the ugliest, most boring, bland games I ever played and this is coming from someone who spent at least 100 hours playing FO4. I haven't heard anything to make me think much has changed and how much more are they really willing to invest with Starfield and TES6 in production?

I wasn't to let down by Fallout 4. It wasn't the best in the franchise but it still gave me that fallout gameplay I loved. I thought the main story was actually pretty decent as well. I agree about it looking dated. Bugs are pretty much expected in these games.

I still think fallout 76 was a failure.

I think it's biggest fault was how it looked. It looked like a mod for FO3 with recycled assets. On top of that, they took away some of the things that perhaps let us ignore how ugly and glitchy the other games were. Namely the dialogue system, the RPG point system, and adding a voiced protagonist, which just killed a lot of the immersion the games were known for.

I still liked it well enough, but the issues were glaring.

Even if it was perfect, I don't think I would like it. The multiplayer shit does nothing for me, and always feels dumbed down, compared to a single player campaign. Just saying, that the people that do like those types of games, have lightened up on it quite a bit.

Im still a bit confused about how 76 changed as I haven’t played it. My understanding is that it launched with zero NPCs — is that correct? Like the game had no dialog, is that right? And then they added all that in like a year later - is that what changed? Or am I way off the mark here?

Thats a big part of it but since that came out I haven't heard a single peep of anyone saying you gotta play FO76 now! The game was trash from top to bottom, i dont know that adding npcs is gonna fix it

I didn't start playing it until about four months ago but I've been playing it a lot. I know when it first dropped in 2018 it had all sorts of issues but from what I've heard they've fixed them all. I like all of the content they've added so far. I started playing it with reservations because of all of the shit people were talking but I just don't get it.

They have definitely not made up for 76. They released a garbage, buggy game that was essentially just a multiplayer mod for Fallout 4, followed by over a year of bad decisions and bad press. Even if the game is decent now, they have the permanent stigma of releasing trash and taking years to fix them. They need to nail their next release, at launch.

I bought Fo76 for cheap off of g2a after the One Wastelander update with NPCs and what not. It was really fun, I enjoyed it. But then recently they added level scaling for every creature, and now I don't like it as much. I don't like it when every battle with a molerat relieves me of all my ammo. There is no relaxation anymore, every fight is level 30 or over.

Meh. That's like every big multiplayer game ever. It's not the first ever MMO-like game to be released in a shitty state. You almost have to put those games out under the impression that it's a beta test, that's gonna have problems once the masses log into it. They're always a work in progress.

Bethesda has always had that rep though. Hasn't really effected them. Now, maybe it's finally catching up with them, but it ain't gonna stop anyone from getting ES6. No other game really matters at this point, except ES6. If that ended up being a shit show, it would do lasting damage. As is right now, they had a rough year or so, and FO76 was a struggle for them to get off the ground. Nobody is seriously writing them off for that though, and all the alleged shady dealings Jim Sterling whines about every single week doesn't matter to most. They just care about the games.

I'd agree that they need to make sure ES6 is up to snuff, and not just in the performance area. That series is their identity. If they fuck that up, then there will be sentiments that they are not merely lazy in their quality control, but perhaps have just simply lost the magic touch. They have to do better than "Fallout 4", that's for sure.

I'd actually be just fine with that level of quality. MS just needs more good games in general they don't all have to be block buster hits. Their main problem is even their games that were at least supposed to be decent just turned out to be horrible garbage.

You have to have a balance of hits that everyone looks forward to and just in general good games that people enjoy but maybe aren't setting the world on fire. Like Days Gone for PS4 isn't some master piece in gaming but it's a good game and more than worth the $20 you can easily pick it up for.

If they don't deliver the games this coming gen, with the amount of investment they've put into acquiring studios.. they should just go ahead and shut the gaming division down.

Obsidian.
InXile.
Bethesda.
Double Fine.
343.
Ninja Theory.
ID Software.
Tango Games.
Arkane.
The Initiative.
Playground Games.
Turn 10.
Rare.
The Coalition.
etc.

They've literally the largest first party portfolio in the business..

Fallout 4 wasn’t too bad, I enjoyed it. Of course I had to install mods to make it look decent but overall I still had a good time. Would I replay it for fun anytime soon? Nah, but I had some fun with it back in the day.

"One of the things that has me most excited is seeing the roadmap with Bethesda’s future games, coming to Xbox console and PC including Starfield, the highly anticipated, new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios". Sarah Bond, CVP.

I would presume that Starfield has a potential 2021 release date.. with Xbox PR talking so readily about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it came out next Fall. They have a track record of debuting games at E3 and releasing them the same year.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best Fallout game I've ever played but I thought it was on par with 3. NV still being the best obviously.

Leaker claims a 2021 release date is targeted.. (with this build being from 2018).
