Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

Not videogames.
no, but given the implementation of their film strategy, I can see them trying to gain more control of the video game and Spiderman media. I don't like it, but I understand it.

I just don't understand that argument. Plenty of third party developers are swept up in this game. It just seems that some people don't like it, if they aren't "draft picks". MS essentially just spent big to pick up some all stars, and are looking to buy a championship. It's all fair. They want to win.

The thing I really struggle with, are people's assertions that this limits options, and that you must buy one or the other. Nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head, and forcing them to buy an Xbox. This isn't a team sport where you might feel loyal to a city out of pride or whatever. It's just electronic entertainment. What do you lose if you switch sides? Where does that loyalty come from? Sony or MS isn't going to give you a cookie if you stay loyal to them, nor will your city throw a parade for them if they win the "console wars". How is anyone so passionate about this shit?
Your analogy doesn't really work about sports and draft picks. One of the reasons people tend to get annoyed with larger publishers buying out the smaller developers (ie EA buying Bioware) is that the properties can go in a completely different direction and the teams often get fucked around with and broken up and the title series ceases to be. But that's not my gripe of this occasion.

And what I'm talking about has nothing to do with loyalty to a brand, just avoiding wasting money and picking up redundant clunky hardware when before I wouldn't have to and had the same access to titles. I don't understand consumers siding with big business rather than their own wallets. It's not a right I have to anything, it's a choice, mine to bear, whether I bother with video games at all going forward or just in a more limited sense.

Your smug condescension about cookies and parades is really unearned given you've not understood anything put to you or provided information that anyone doesn't already know.

But see, you're angry...for no reason. You have choices. You're just babbling about nonsense. "Siding with big business over their wallets"...I'm sorry, wut? Are any big game companies not "big business"? What the hell are you even talking about? What indie console are you supporting? They're all "big business". You're not making any sense.

again, and this is a habit of yours, you get smug when you don't know what's put to you or understand what you're talking about rather than just asking a simple question and engaging. And, not mad, but you're getting some mud flung your way because you're being a smug asshole about it rather than ask the question itself. Get what you give bud.

I'm not siding wither Sony over Microsoft, for like the 3rd time. I don't give a shit about that. If you are a consumer, and are concerned about getting the best product for the least amount of money, exclusive agreements for these types of intellectual properties - ones that have decades of fan backing and ease of access - are not good for the consumer, only Microsoft and Sony.

By analogy, you start watching a show, like Lost, on free to air TV. Then after 10 seasons they say the last season will be exclusively on HBO and you need to get a subscription, well that's a pain the ass. Now you need to get cable, pay for installation, pay for the subscription. It's within your means but surely you'd like to avoid it if you could. You understand why ABC would sell to HBO and what HBO stands to gain, doesn't mean you have to like it. If it had always been on HBO, well then you knew what you were getting into and paying for exclusivity wouldn't be a big deal. But you got invested for 9 years and they pull the rug out from under you. In a nutshell, that's my gripe.

The examples you listed are controlled by Microsoft. Sony and Steam are very separate entities.

Controlled by Microsoft isnt the issue here, nice try lol. Sony has pulled the same type of shit with Street Fighter and Spiderman and you're nothing but a hypocrite.

Yes it is. And the the amount of developers and franchises that were housed under Bethesda are not even comparable to Spider-Man.

And that's different from the last three console generations...how?

Oh', I'm sorry. Is there a consumer friendly "free" console out there that's getting fucked? Great analogy, BAM...

This is nonsense. You have a choice. PS5 or XBOXSXSXSXSX. Nobody is getting fucked. You have a choice. If you're glued to a choice, over some silly loyalty to either company, than that's on you.

See again. You don't understand what's being put to you and don't have critical thinking skills. I tried to spoon feed it to you, the anology is fine, you're just not smart. I'm not going to spend more time bending over backwards to come up with something simpler so that you can understand it. FFS I hope you don't have children.

I'm out.

Concession accepted.

PS: The analogy would work if you were comparing HBO to Showtime.

LOL @ getting so worked up over the console wars.

"I hope you don't have children!" LOL, get a grip little fella. It's just video games.

It's surprising how many friends of my are bent out of shape over Microsoft taking over Zenimax. It seems more of them know about this then what is going on in the world lol.

PC Game Pass is broken for me once again.

Played without issues yesterday, now some notification about Microsoft Dependency Installer an games don't launch anymore. Found lots of reports on this issue online from months ago but no answer / solution from Microsoft. Also the second time this is happening to me, about a year ago it was some other random error and I couldn't play anymore.

What an absolute dogshit piece of software the Windows Store and Xbox PC App are, unbelievable.

(all this besides how bad the controller support is, playing on TV, Windows Pop-ups for Account login during the game, ingame asking you to rate the game on the store, etc. etc.)

I don’t get it either. I loved my 360 and had a great time with it but I wanted to switch sides and I did. I’ve loved Sony and everything they’ve done on PS4 even more so than 360. This gen I love everything MS is bringing to the table other than game pass not a fan of that but everything else is great. If it wasn’t for Sony exclusives and me having a gaming pc I would 100% get one. I think they’ve out done Sony in every way other than the most important way to me which is games.

Apparently this deal is not finalised and will take up to a year to finalise?

I dont think Starfield will be exclusive if that is the case.
