Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

Dafuq is wrong with you ?
What deleted post ???

Fact is GP is losing money. My post, you’re referring, said that GP's model is inherently unstable. Soon they’ll be either they’ll be haemorrhaging money or lose AAA titles or will be jacking up the prices. Most likely a mix of the last two.
That’s not the same as GP's finished.
Less video games and more reading comprehension classes, my friend.

Fact is there’s no games from this deal that’s showing up on GP tomorrow.
Fact is, their games are still being released multi platform.
Fact is, they said case by case.
Fact is that now and in the immediate future at least, Sony's got the games.

<{vega}>
lol.. haemorrhaging money, jacking up the prices or losing AAA titles.

There's a slight difference between Greenberg saying Gamepass isn't currently a huge profit play, and haemorrhaging funds. Gamepass has added 5 million subs since April, and this will only accelerate with the release of the Series X.. it's going in the right direction to be profitable at this very early stage.

Doom Eternal is going to be added to gamepass next week, so you're incorrect on your first point..

Games are still being released multiplatform..? Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo are only going to be released on the PS5 due to prior contractual agreements, once that period ends they go straight on to gamepass..

"Case by case" basis and Spencer's comments today that he wants to make Xbox the best ecosystem to play and that game availablity is a major aspect of that, suggests 100% the major IP's will be exclusive.. as @LuchaBear has said, prepare to be disappointed if you think otherwise.

Finally, I've never mentioned Sony to you in any post, they have a stellar exclusive library.. congrats or whatever.. not everything has to be a console war, which you seem insistent on making it.

Imagine coping this hard.

I look forward to your future meltdowns over the obvious.
I already have a Microsoft console that’s on par with its “next gen” upgrade.

Seems I’m covered.

Getting to play all the future classics Sony studios produce and playing whatever Bathesda rolls out. Good stuff. Enjoy Assassins Creed.

Quit frontin', dork. You're fooling nobody.

"Bu-bu-but, what about the industry? This is terrible!"

...

"Yeah, well, I don't really care."

LOL.

I absolutely care, especially with them talking about pulling this again with more studios. I’m just covered in case of monopoly.

You’re probably the whitest person on these boards. Please don’t use “frontin’” again, please.

You’re probably the whitest person on these boards.

I'm no more or less white than you are, Shaun King.

I repeat, quit frontin'. You are trembling over the prospect of Sony losing it's foothold on the industry, which is just fucking sad.

I’m not speaking on behalf of anyone. It’s just cringe city, Jeffrey.

And once again, the angry, right wing, Canadian Trump fanatic, has no business calling anyone else sad. Find your own sense of manhood. Don’t look for it in septuagenarian orange blob.

"Xbox has no games.."

<Neil01>
Better off owning a gaming PC than an Xbox in my opinion. All the same games but they will run better and look nicer.

Sony and Nintendo still have exclusives to their console. Xbox at this point is just a cheaper gaming PC as far as I can tell, which is fine if you don't wanna pay extra to play the games.

agreed I just need Sony to transition over and I can fully move to pc.

Hell even PC has exclusive games lol Xbox has none.

I don't disagree.. PC integration is a core aspect of the Xbox strategy, and it's here to stay. Even Playstation is looking at releasing more of their exclusives on PC..

Personally, I prefer the convenience of a console, and for the price, the hardware contained within the Series X is good value.

I know. What I’m saying is if this gen of console hardware doesn’t perform, you could see it abandoned in favour of the pure subscription model and yes, that would mean GP on Sony, Nintendo or whoever.

Remember that Netflix started out as a hardware model too.
Absolutely not. There's no reason for that. Not only is the XSX/XSS selling out pre-orders in the first few hours everywhere in the world where it has been made available, but Microsoft is no more likely to do this than Sony or Nintendo are to publish their own titles to the Xbox/PC platforms. Nintendo and Sony are software companies, too, not just hardware companies. Yet they don't publish their games to the Xbox or PC. I would have thought the reason for this obvious.

Microsoft already has a platform for Game Pass irrespective of the Xbox, and that's PCs. If they wants to maximize their user base they would branch into publishing on Android/FireTV or iOS. These companies will offer some resistance, because they have gaming business ambitions of their own, but they are less direct competitors.

Yet the largest market of all, as I've said numerous times in the past trying to explain the future of all this to Sherdoggers, as with Stadia, is the Smart TV market. This is why all of these companies are piling into Cloud gaming. Imagine if Microsoft struck a deal with Vizio and Samsung and TCL. Now those Smart TVs come with a built-in "Game Pass" app that can stream the games. All the user needs to do is buy an Xbox controller.

They are trying to be the Netflix of gaming, and you don't achieve that by helping your competition. Netflix never let Blockbuster rent DVDs on their service. In fact, the latter desperately tried letting Netflix offer a mail-in service at their stores, and we all know how that turned out for them. Netflix doesn't distribute Netflix Originals to Hulu, Disney+, CBS All Access. Why would they?

Why would Microsoft share Game Pass with their competition? They're trying to be the Netflix of gaming, not the Best Buy of gaming.

Console gamers don't even want to pay $100 extra for the disc version of the PS5 when they insisted for years it was a dealbreaker being forced to not truly "own" their games. They're all championing the PS5 Digital Version. Cost is clearly a commanding virtue in the console war. This was easy to predict. Meanwhile, a gaming PC that runs noticeably "better and smoother" is going to cost ~3x as much.

Your logic dictates the virtue of going with a Switch or PS5 entails the user also buy a gaming PC. Not only is that highly expensive, but it is most appealing to gamers who apparently play so many games that one console's library isn't enough.

Nah, all I did was note that an Xbox is essentially just a cheap, functionally stripped down gaming PC whereas PS & Nintendo consoles have more identity. I wasn't making an argument for what consumer behavior is or will be.

Nothing wrong with that.

As an aside, I hope you're right about Sony bringing more exclusives to PC. Even if it's a wait they have some stuff I'd like to get my hands on.

You failed to appreciate my counterpoint. A "cheaper", "stripped down PC" is a machine that has every bit the identity that the Nintendo and Sony consoles do.

Observe the reasons console gamers raise for why they abhor the PC platform.
  • They want plug n' play simplicity. It's cheaper, and it's simpler to know what you're buying.
  • They value greater stability of games.
  • They want to use a controller, not a keyboard + mouse. They don't want to suffer a competitive disadvantage when using the former in multiplayer, and they prefer for games to build themselves around it as the primary input for interface decisions.
  • They want to avoid online cheaters.
  • They want all of their gaming funneled into a single account. They don't want to be spread across multiple launchers they have to manage.

When you consider these, and you consider that the XSX/XSS offer better hardware values than any PC on the market, by a gaping margin, and a truly high-end experience of what is available in PC gaming at a much lower price point, again by a gaping margin, you see the attractiveness of the consoles.

That is its identity, and nothing else out there offers it.
