Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

Phil Spencer: "We want the Xbox ecosystem to absolutely be the best place to play, and we think game availability is absolutely part of that."

I'm sure you'll continue to act like a smugg know it all but all the signs are pointing in the other way.

Yes, the Xbox is going to sell 200M consoles and have a 100% attachment rate on Game Pass.

They paid twice the amount that Disney did for Star Wars to limit themselves to a fraction of potential consumers.

Funny how much Spencer dodged a simple question on TES6.

“Corporate talking point, corporate talking point, case by case basis.”

So yeah, a big nothing to counter my assertion the established franchise will still find a home elsewhere.

You got nothing lol.. Game Pass ain't just on consoles but you already knew that. Keep laughing though, more melt downs are coming and I'm gonna love it.

Case by case basis, question dodging, corporate speak.

He’d fucking say it was exclusive if it was lmao.

Twice the cost of Star Wars and we’re going to limit ourselves to the smallest player base out there and miss out on hundreds of millions in sales.

Jez Corden, Windows Central editor who leaked the Series X and S price..

When he's this sure, it's because he was told by people who are in the know. Melt downs coming eventually. They're smart to spread it apart from the accusation announcement.

Have fun playing next gen games on mobile?

Is that the best you got after receiving a reality check?

You're thinking short time and small, they're thinking much bigger and long term. Streaming isn't always going to be shitty.. The Switch has 360/PS4 graphics and is still as popular as ever, so don't even start.

Yeah, I don’t know any gamer who has any desire to stream their games to a 7” screen but have at it.

Playing Candy Crush while taking a dump isn’t quite the same.

That's nice.

You’re comparing microtransaction driven markets dominated by Karens to the likes of TES?

I’m sure they’ll be ecstatic to FINALLY be able to play TES6 on their iPhone.

Yea actually that will be possible...

If you look earlier in this thread an article was posted where it showed some technology that zenimax developed that would allow any device to stream any game..

That's what I was alluding to in my post about the acquisition not being about the exclusives but that kind of technology...

Right, I understand it will be possible. I’m saying have fun because that sounds awful on anything less than a tablet.

The point is with that zenimax tech that is now Microsoft's, game pass will be on everything. Even if people aren't interested in te6 they may be interested in playing other games on their iphone that wouldn't have been possible without the ms acquisition...

Microsoft has an OS monopoly, but I'm not sure I would characterize that as a "death grip" given that the Microsoft PC gaming store is like #4 in the world, and would be swallowed up many times over by Steam.

I think Microsoft is kind of feeling it out, charitably speaking, or not clear in its business direction, at worst.
It’s either GamePass full throttle which means open it up to any and everybody or go console.
I have a gut feeling that this might be a last big push towards console hardware and if this gen fails to Sony / Nintendo they’re going to pivot hard towards GP and software towards PC / other consoles / mobile. Doesn’t mean they’ll give up completely on console though.
Oh and heads will definitely roll.

I'm sure you'll continue to act like a smugg know it all but all the signs are pointing in the other way.

"In terms of other platforms we'll take it on a case by case basis but as the Xbox community, what they should feel is a huge investment in the experience they're going to have in the Xbox ecosystem, and we want the Xbox ecosystem to be the absolute best place to play and we think game availability is absolutely part of that."

That quote is the clearest indication yet from Spencer that the major IP's will be exclusive..

It’s all about turning Gamepass into Netflix for gaming . Look at the install base for Bethesda IPs and EA IPs and figure how many more gamers will gladly pay for gamepass instead of $70. They’ll make their money back within 3 years easy.

I think the bigger thing to watch is Luna causing MS to buy up more studios and making more IPs exclusive/timed exclusive
