He’s absolutely demolishing the division and making things look easy while being physically outsized in some of the fights unlike Khabib.

He should fight Figgy and then Umar. Once he beats both he would be neck and neck with Khabib in the all time rankings.

Umar said he wants to fight Merab next. I doubt the UFC lets Merab cherry pick his opponent like that. Also I'm sure Khabib still has some pull with Dana.

Merab has been dropped multiple times, choked unconscious, cut repeatedly, lost a bunch of rounds, lost multiple fights, and only has one finish in the UFC against a washed fighter that almost KO'd him.

Khabib has never been dropped, never been cut, basically lost one coin-flip round once, never lost a fight, multiple finishes against elite opposition (finished 3 champions in a row, even if two were Interim, with 6 total finishes).

Merab's a great fighter and a nice guy, but I'm not sure if this is just an excuse to hate on Khabib, Merab nut-hugger, or an interesting blend of the two.

Agreed. Merab's style may not be appealing to most fans but he is rolling through the best in the division and making it look easy. He dominated O'Malley, Yan, Cejudo, Aldo, Moraes, Stamann and Dodson without ever getting rocked.

The fact of the matter is if you make weight you are in the weight-class, that's a decision each fighter gets to make. You can't be a "size-bully" against guys that choose to cut less weight and take the trade-off of having better cardio/more speed instead of being bigger. Every fighter cuts weight, but somehow if you cut 5 lbs more than someone else that makes you a cheater/size bully. The reason Merab has such insane cardio for the division is because he isn't the biggest guy, so instead of packing on bulk he's optimized his cardio to best adhere to his style, which was really smart.

I'm not a big Merab fan because his style is to weaponize cardio and control opponents, which to me is the least interesting approach to fighting since it results in so little actual damage. But it's damn impressive, can't take away his ability to implement his game against a variety of opponents and walk through a lot of damage to make it work.

It's just odd to try and launder your Khabib-hatred through a Merab-celebration post; why not just post about how impressive Merab is without incorrectly talking down to other fighters? Unless Khabib is living rent-free in your head like McG it doesn't make sense to bring him into the discussion by pretending Merab is somehow better/more dominant when that's patently false.

The reality is that Merab is showcasing his own dominance to the world that rivals Khabib’s. Yea, he has had a few mis steps but that doesn’t mean what he is doing is any less than what Khabib did.
