I'd like to see it again.

It was a close fight decided in a very close R4.

Nobody's going to out-cardio Merab, & so knocking him out, or hurting him like O'Malley did in 2 diff. rounds... is the only chance for dethroning him. O'Malley is the most fit for the job & so lets run it back.

I just re-watched teh fight before posting here, & agree wit teh 3-2 judging... (which I also agreed to after teh fight)... but the R4 Willy won, was very close due to O'Malley making significant lacerations early. Willy was bleeding all over him while he rode & I'd agree, did make up for the lacerations with his barage of strikes, but it's not some washout though, like many seem to elude to... just because Merab was on top. Context matters... & Merab had a lot of catching up to do after being lacerated.

R1 - Willy Won, got some TD's that won him the round, but couldn't keep O'Malley down. this round wasn't much, but for sure Willy won.
R2 - Willy won by holding him down & doing very well & attacking, but not putting him in any real danger. Willy's best round.
R3 - O'Malley won. It stayed standing mostly, perhaps because Merab's own pace slowed him down a bit and didn't allow him to spam TD's.
R4 - Willy Won arguably - O'Malley winning the early exchanges, Merab got him down, which is a scoring criteria, but O'Malley busted him up with an elbow which is way more significant. Merab came back with lots of shots, & though he didn't lacerate O'Malley in turn, his volume arguably makes this Merab's round
R5 - O'Malley won - Merab took some hard shots to the body that hurt him, I'd expect this will be where O'Malley aims for in a follow up fight.

You have to appreciate damage as the highest of scoring criteria. Position scores zero. Who's on top or bottom doesn't determine a fight's scoring.

3-2 - Merab, but that winning r4 round where merab got lacerated, is a huge scoring criteria against him. Had O'Malley gotten loose &/or not taken a few of those shots from the bottom, the outcome could've been switched, because teh Helbow that bloodied Merab in that round was the most significant of the fight.

Lets get real... this waz close! Merab won rounds with inconsequential striking after the TDs. O'Malley had teh R4 laceration, & teh R5 belly strikes which were teh 2 strongest opportunities for this fight to end... which is the highest of scoring criteria.

So I'd love to see this again.

There is literally no one else, Yan got 50-45d, Umar injured, Cory lost his title eliminator fight.

Sean actually hurt Merab in that last round

This is what happens when you supercede merit for superfluous match making like Merab vs Umar. You make Merab vs figgy, the right match up. Then you get O'malley vs Yan, and Merab vs Song yadong for the next shot, which would be this one. But now you have both yan and O'malley with claim.

shitty dead end matchmaking like yan vs figgy and Merab vs Umar is how we're left in these situations.

From a ppv perspective Yan is less a draw than O'Malley for merab

I'm astounded at how often they do this... and for some reason they do it the most at 135.

Aldo should've fought Aljo instead of TJ. Both TJ and CCC v Aljo where dead end matches.

This may actually be the lamest rematch ever...its wild that the champ had to fight someone in between but the loser sat out for over a year and gets a rematch for their next fight
Pena, Izzy, Stipe.

I’m sure there are more in the last few years. But these are off the top of my head.

It’s not even very rare anymore.

Edit.

Just remembered Strickland.

Not even as egregious considering Izzy and Stipe were established in their division as respectable champions who had multiple defenses and could be argued as among the all time bests within them. Pena bested her divisions / womens GOAT. Not saying they weren't gifted shots afterwards but at least they had respectable legacies that earned a bit of favor.

Sean hasn't even had a defense of his title nor even a rebound win after losing it.

Fucking dumb.

Sean has had zero matches and virtually no time to improve as a fighter to fight the guy he lost to in an auto.

He defended vs Chito.

Have you seen the ww and lhw champ? Can we get more boring cards?
I agree with you, the most boring and lame champions we have had in a very long time, so many constant rematches as well in title fights.

I try to think positevely about this.. Omalley loses, then Merab hits 35 soon after and loses his next defense fight, and neither is champ..

Nothing lame about it. It sales better than Merab vs Any BW.

My only gripe is not seeing Sean vs Cory

I don't like this either, but we know that's not going to happen. It'll be a 25 minutes smother fest that we'll all feel dirty afterwards for watching.

lol Merab went 2 fights without getting rocked and people forget how hittable and wobbly he usually is
