Mental health days

It’s offered at my place of business. I have never taken them up on the offer but would start drinking by 10am if that was my go to.

They're very lenient with that stuff at my work, most times I take sick leave I don't even get a certificate, hell I've taken sick days without even putting sick leave in. I work for a major telecommmunications / tech company and they're always pushing diversity, mental health, LGBTQ or whatever stuff so they have some pretty awesome policies when it comes to work flexibility.

It happens in healthcare, especially over the last two years. I took one at a certain point. Mental health is just as important as physical health. I don't believe in abusing it but it's occasionally useful.

I pretty much use my sick days and vacation days interchangeably and the company has no issue with that since they are both treated the same as PTO.

IMO, companies should just skip the BS and just have one PTO category that you can draw from. Planned vacation? PTO. Don't feel like coming in? PTO. Actually sick? Sucks, but PTO.

Your allotted sick days are yours to use for whatever you want. My company grinds us into the dirt with long hours without notice. Just last week I took Friday off because I'd already worked 45 hours and was tired and pissed off.

I work in LE, and routinely see fucked up shit. So if I take a day off for my mental health I tell my supervisor. If anyone really cares then they can fornicate themselves with a wooden stick.

Sounds like it'll end up in your personnel file and used against you because too mental.

Yay I don’t see how it is any different than calling in sick, if it’s not abused it’s fine, and like with most things that so with work if you work hard show up with a good attitude and help things work more smoothly no one will give a shit, and if they do fuck em . We are here to live not work

The opposite. CertAinly in CA. If anything it's encouraged to admit mental weakness, three of my bosses pulling me aside to ask if I was okay did my swede in.

I took 2 unscheduled day off from work since I started my first real job. Once in 1983 to goof off, and once in 2017 to look for a new job. I’m still working. I am never to sick to go to work. I stay home when medically advised from infection like COVID, but I’m overall pretty reliable. My dad and gramps were the same way.

I'd instantly start looking for a reason to get rid of that person
This is what I’d expect.

Today I had to take one of these days, just got hit with the schizophrenia hard. Didn’t tell my boss that tho. I’d fire me if I knew I was a schizophrenic nutjob that’ll have to occasionally call out of work lol.

You ain't doing that bad if you know you have an episode on the way and need to stay home.

Nah. Maybe I should once in awhile it's just not how I'm wired nor how I was raised. I just... deal with shit and keep pushin'.

i am 100% in support of mental health days. fortunately, i haven’t had any of my employees abuse it for ulterior reasons, but, unfortunately, i worry that they are too afraid to take a mental health day due to being afraid of sounding like/being perceived as a pussy or some shit. instead they’d rather embarrass themselves by defying the odds by being the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etcetera person to need a day off due to eating some “bad chinese food.”

Last time I use that as an excuse to not go to work, everyone laughed at me and called me a pussy. My boss told everyone that was the reason I called in and laughed too.
Gold. I agree with your boss. LmAo!

Wow! That’s a tough diagnosis! You are a hero for working and taking only an occasional day off. You gotta be strong.

I've had a lot of issues with my mental health, but as far as I'm concerned, part of being an adult is to keep a roof over your head and fulfill your obligations.

I am part of a team. If I drop out, my team suffers, so I try my best not to. I only take days off if it's annual leave, or I'm legitimately sick to the point where I can barely stand. I'd take days off if there was an emergency, or somebody close to me died, but thankfully that hasn't happened yet.

Also, if I had to take mental health days off, I'd consider my job to be part of the problem, so I'd look at finding a new one.
