Mental health days

What's the difference between this and a sick day?

I think its ok to have "i dont want to go to fucking work" days but those are just called sick days. Those are usually from being really tired or hungover though, so you could argue I actually am unwell.

Few friends of mine work for PayPal and they have been getting a few "wellness" days on top of their annual leave the last couple of years

We have one female in my shop and she calls in for "mental health days" all the time and we don't even have them lol.

I never heard of that term and don't understand what it means.

Calling in for a mental health day. Even if that's not the reason you give but is the reason.

Yay or Nay?

Wtf?

You're asking guys on a karate forum if it's okay to take a day off to care for your mental health?

You guys really OD sometimes with the macho shit. If you need the day off take the day off. If you work and accrue the time, you earned the right to chill. Of course you're gonna get the "MH days are for pussies bro!" guys. (There seems to be a few here already).

I think everyone should take some days to just reset, not necessarily travel anywhere, just decompress, even if your job isn't particularly stressful... especially if it is though. A hard job with no days off leads to drinking problems or dreading waking up in the morning.

I'm 36, worked since I was 16 and have had 1 sick day in my entire life. I am self employed now so there is no such thing as a sick day or mental health day for me. My wife works for the government so she already gets anything that smells like a holiday off but still takes "sick" days off all the time. If we have few drinks during the week and she doesn't feel 100% the next day, boom, not going to work. I am jealous of her ability to take them off but can't really blame her since she "earns" them in the employment policy.

My last job were trying to force me into taking mental health days off after a particularly nasty car accident. I took 3 days and was able to do my job fine after, California's weird.

Nothing wrong with them.
My company doesn't offer them and even then I probably wouldn't take them if they did, but I should sometimes.
Like all this stuff it starts at the fringe in the progressive Industries and companies and then gets normalised over time.
Modern professional settings are extremely taxing mentally. People do need a break.
