In ze bugs we trust!

Inbefore the memes coming in... From January 24th insects can be found in processed foods such as bread and other baked items, according to official EU documents and they don't think it's necessary to label them on packages. No joke! This was just reported over here today. The EU is going to start allowing insect powder (from crickets ) to be added to food. There is no requirement for it to be labelled.

Is that Thurenburg pretending to be arrested?

Looks like it, but idk to be honest. Maybe she was actually being escorted away from a protest or something?

That was in Germany last weekend - got debunked already LOL what a shitshow

I thought you had to be completely transparent about the ingredients in food or is that a requirement only in the US?

The EU rules on food labelling identify a list of 14 allergens that need to be labelled (e.g. eggs, milk, fish). This is to allow people living with food allergies to be informed on whether products contain ingredients they are sensitive to. There is no such label for edible insects.

They will be able to label that under "further ingredients" if it's just some powder in a small % that has been added to the actual food like bread, biscuits or pasta.

The E.U. executive branch also noted that insects “are a highly nutritious and healthy" food source with high fat, protein, vitamin, fibre and mineral content. Therefore, they are an alternative protein source facilitating the shift towards healthy and sustainable diets.
