Chino turned out to be my fav fighter from that gen. I'd have liked to see more of him but also happy he got out early given that fighting style.

The mouth piece would probably contribute to his ability to make Floyd feel that through the glove.

Maidana is a really underrated welterweight. The version that fought Mayweather and beat Broner— I would’ve loved to have seen against the other top welters at the time like Keith Thurman or Kell Brook. No one at that weight— not even Pacquiao was able to put that kind of a beating on Broner or Mayweather.

His style was so awkward and herky-jerky, thats why it gave Floyd problems. ITs hard to time a guy like that and FLoyd was all about the timing. Maidana would give him a tough fight 10 times out of 10. Not because he was so great, but because he's so unorthodox compared to anyone Floyd could train for or with.
 
Everybody doesn't have the same gifts and even over 50 fights at a high level doesn't always tell you everything about a fighter, didn't duran quit in a fight way after he had 50 of them? Exp and defenses do not always tell you everything, roy jones went 15 years or so before we saw he really had no chin. It's just that Mayweather never had anyone to push him to that limit. We do know he had a great chin, I'd seen him hit hard and he had great instincts when hit, that was definitely one box that he ticked, as for the rest? I agree with Roy Jones here at 20:10:

Floyd gets a bad rap because he refused to fight dumb against guys who could put his lights out. Its ridiculous. Always was and still is.

I love how he was so tough he whined for five years about manny before finally fighting him after he'd lost twice. He'd have had his hands very full in 2009 with Manny and he knew it. He could have won but he'd have had to pull out all the stops and he never had to do that and didn't seem to want to.

Nah, Floyd was just being a baby. He used to have lidocaine injected into his hands before fights and wore highly protective gloves with "comfort wraps" (as Bob Ware, the guy that used to wrap his hands, called them).

That squeal was a little much for what couldnt be that hard of a bite

So if the pain is bad enough to the point you have to do all that, you think he’s being a baby by reacting badly to someone biting them?
All of that, what you just said, further proves my point.

It’s honestly not. You have to understand the crowd is roaring so loud at certain points, you can hardly even hear yourself. Think like when you have headphones in listening to music and you end up raising your voice beyond what is necessary when someone is talking to you but ten times worse. And then you factor in his hands were already injured - perfectly reasonable response.

No it was actually the opposite. Floyd Mayweather mentioned Manny Pacquiao’s name in interviews and post fight more than the other way around. And they literally had a fight contract, date and venue set out for May of 2010 - and had been negotiating since late 2009. But because Pacquiao didn’t want to do Olympic style drug testing, it fell through. Pacquiao then went on to state that his career was fine without a Mayweather fight.

Yes, I know, they both played their games, no one's excuse was really that good and I can't speak for manny's reasons but I know that Mayweather wanted nothing to do with the guy that beat Oscar, nothing. And yes, I'd have been suspicious about that superhuman performance too but ask yourself, would an Ali, would a Ray Leonard(he might), would a Marvin Hagler avoid a fight like that? Would Sugar Ray Robinson? Robinson only avoided a good fighter if there was nothing to gain, not the case here.

it's the tone that's kinda odd, boxers usually grunt when they "scream" it's involuntary and honestly doesn't mean anything other than what I said, something happened that wasn't expected and it was painful. Ray Robinson claims jake hit him in the body so hard tears came to his eyes. Ali was said to have made an oomph sound that was totally involuntary when a football player he fought early in his career socked him in the stomach "seemed all the way up to the elbow" according to the journalist who retold the story. Ali also bent over when Kenny Norton popped him in the ribs (probably hitting upon his old, incessant rib injury). Pain is pain really, bodyshots hurt more than head shots and head shots really don't hurt that bad usually, "hurt" from headshots is meant to mean buzzed more than pain and yes, some fighters freak out if they get hit hard enough and change how they're fighting. I still believe Roy Jones dominated in his prime because he got respect early and tamed these guys with his awesome speed and power. That, in my opinion/theory, was his mo. Take the fight out of a guy early and play the rest of the time. My question was always, what would happen to a guy who wouldn't yield to that? He didn't fight too many of those, merqui sosa was one and he had Roy in serious trouble for a couple seconds until all that bravery just got him knocked on his ass and stopped.

The biteforce of a human is low as it is. Now have them wear a mouthguard and try and bite through a thick foam-padded glove with handwraps underneath only to reach the hand itself that's been numbed by lidocaine. Yeah, that's being a baby.
 
The fact that Floyd fought Maidana twice was probably the most embarrassing and pathetic moment of his career. Maidana was so slow and so limited. Mayweather clearly beat him in the first fight, but then tried to justify giving him a rematch because he didn't want to take on risky fights.

Let's be real, his 6 fight Showtime contract was a joke.

Fighting Berto to finish it off was the nail in the coffin.

Maidana placed the pressure enough to create questions on whether Floyd was actually deflecting or surviving. Neither Broner or mayweather expected that. Maidana just hits and hits and countering is often pointless because he just didnt care.
