Marilyn Manson the current #metoo

Gotcha. Didn’t really follow it all, so I don’t know one way or the other. Was a fan when I was yping(went to midnight release of “Antichrist Superstar”, but, wouldn’t want my female relatives dating him, even back then.
I used to be a massive fan, only seen him a couple of times but Mechanical Animals was one of my all time favourite albums. I wore out the Guns, God and Government live DVD I watched it so much.
Getting low on shirts a few weeks ago and picking his out randomly didn't feel good, I won't be wearing that again.

You were pretty hardcore if you went along to that.

I know I'm over emotional anyway but after watching the documentaries I cried. Tears of shame for being such a dreadful judge of character when it was staring me in the face the whole time. part of the allure to his music was that it had something out of the ordinary risque.

Not saying he did or did not, just don’t beat yourself up. You can only see what a person chooses to let you see. Entertainers are basically cliff notes people. We think we know them, but it’s all an act, so best to look at them purely in that way. I mean there were plenty of “nice” folks who get busted doing all sort of unsavory things. People man

Oh I shook it off, I think it was shock. I'm not feeling bad about it now. When I started this thread I was of the mindset of "what did you expect?" till I investigated further and knew how many women were involved.
Lesson learned, shame I'll never listen to him again, Coma White and The Beautiful People are epic.

These hoes know what their getting into, when their getting into a relationship with the Antichrist superstar aka Paul from the wonder years

Any of you old asses who were teens in the 90s remember how controversial Manson was, during the dead to the world tour? Holy shit. Animals sacrificed on stage, ribs removed to suck his own peen, responsible for columbine, cities trying to not allow them to preform. Religious groups protesting at their shows.

The only thing I was surprised about was how Trent Reznor totally threw him under the bus, when these allegations came out and talks like he was some angel and they strictly just had a business relationship during the 90s. Especially if you ever read Long Hard Road out of Hell or even watch the old NIN Closure video/tour documentary from forever ago

I saw MM on their antichrist superstar tour in 96 in NY when he accidentally ko'd their drummer with the mic stand

I'm a massive Trent fan, like I used to worship him. I know they had mutual shaganigans with fans. Difference is, Trent changed and became a responsible respectable human, MM stayed the same.

It was really cool how polarizing he was when he was on top. Parents hated or were terrified of the guy,and when the sweet dreams cover came out,it got so much attention from the older generation who were around when that song was big

Was part of the fun. Cutting, Devil imagery, and getting blown by twiggy on stage. The hate from everyone not a fan was just so… Enticing? Man. He would not get an eye bat nowadays. Being “normal” is crazy now.

That tour was awesome. Had that “pulpit” like thing on stage and such. Lightning bolt curtain background. So much fun for us angsty latchkey kids I hung out with.

It was amazing. Thats my fav era of manson even though Mechanical Animals kicked ass.

When he knocked out the drummer by swinging the stand around, the other band mates threw their guitars on him, they didnt think he was out cold i think and were just probably always being mean to each other and on drugs all the time. Anyway when it was clear he was unconcious Manson was like "oh fuck.." and ran off the stage and the show was over.

If Manson had died or killed himself after Mechanical Animals came out,he'd be a God.

It kind of all started to go downhill from that point on. Because you cant out do Antichrist superstar/Mechanical Animals

The concept that made him so interesting was sort of completed at that point. Everything after that is just introspective stuff, and the music itself isnt good enough or compelling enough to make that as interesting.

I don’t think the younger generation understands how controversial he was at that time. I really can’t think of musicians or groups who gotten as much publicity, based on shock value since him.

Off topic, but this thread hit the nostalgia for me (maybe the couple drinks helped too) but what an awesome time to be a young adult. I just remember going to record stores and finding NINs perfect drug single, type o negatives Cinnamon Girl single, or some random shit by the Cure. As awesome as the internet is, how instant everything is ruined the hunt to hear some elusive b-side, remix, live performances etc that you could only find on cd or vinyl singles.

I loved it. I was never like a mansonite type. I was more of a metalhead that happened to like Manson, and he was really instrumental in me being a free thinker. I think he spoke to many in that generation. People used to get mad at the sight of him. Id get some people saying man how can you like this guy when id wear their shirts, and I just felt like he must be dong something right to get this reaction. All these false rumors about what he did,and he'd just say that these moral people are making this shit up,what does it say about them that theyd think this shit up?

There was a rumor that he would pass drugs to kids in the crowd, and he's like omg id never do that, obviously id keep them all for myself hahaha.

It was all done on a massive scale,it was one hell of a ride. I have alot of fondness for him at that time.

With you. Music and cooking related things are my heartbeat but when I lived in a small town as a 13/14 year old a small record shop owner putting special edition 12" back for me so no one else could buy them was just wonderful. Nothing untoward, he just knew what I would want. Nothing online, you had to graft for it which made it all the more sweet when you got your end game.

Mechanical Animals let me down thematically, though some good tunes were on it.

I liked the evil carnival like feel of portrait and the spooky kids stuff, and then the religious zealotry aspect of Antichrist. Though I totally get your point. His character “evolved” to what should have been the coup de grâce to that character. All else afterwards was really forced feeling.
