Manti Te

I'm so confused by some of the reactions to this.

Did Te'o commit some heinous crime? No.

But it is actually a shitty thing to speak on and garner sympathy and benefit from a fictitiously tragic death to a real disease.

If you had a girlfriend who faked cancer to get your sympathy, you would call her psycho and block her number. This is an equivalent psycho action.

he was basically a bust in the NFL. Irvin from the seahawks did two weeks in jail and got drafted 15th. football players are scumbags. football coaches know this. they care about work ethic and results. they are only worried about a guys character if they think it will prevent him from playing games.

No, this is very dependent on the position, person, and backstory.

Seriously, go think long and hard about how fucking insane this story is compared to the dime-a-dozen tales of NFL prospects getting arrested for being drunk, high, or violent.
In fact, most of us can sympathize with these stories. We've all gotten drunk, high, wanted to punch someone, or been tempted to take something that didn't belong to us. Some of us have even gotten arrested for these things.

But being involved in a yearlong sham story about a fake girlfriend dying of cancer, all on national TV and in huge interviews?
It's just mindblowing levels of insane.

we still don't know the whole story. it matters what he knew when. if he concocted the whole thing, then yes he's a nutter.

lol, it's just not a common story, i don't know if it's nearly as bad as you've pre- determined. seriously, people can have a different perspective than you and not be wrong.

Winning = Money.
Thats all any Athletic Directors or Team Owners care about.
What Te'o offers a team has not been altered by his situation.
My argument has been consistant.

btw, nice dodge

you never bothered to address the point i had made, so what exactly did i dodge? what did it cost the eagles to sign vick, and what would it cost a team to draft t'eo in the first round?

also, how often do rookie lb's come in and turn a losing team into a winner? t'eo was more about being a leader and a face for a franchise (like he was at nd) rather than a playmaker and a game changer.

at the very least he lied about a great deal of the story (meeting her, spending time with her, talking to her on the phone, making up things that she supposedly told him). it would be a downright embarrassment if this kid was the face of your franchise. do you think gm's want to risk a 1st round pick on him? i don't.

Sorry can you restate this? don't understand your point.

those are all white lies. we are all liars. the guy could very well have fallen for a girl online and made those things up to not be embarrassed. if a gm thought he could be a pro bowler then absolutely they will pick him.

white lies? they were deliberate deceptions perpetrated against the nation at large. there's a difference between telling someone they don't look fat and making up a story about a fake girlfriend who was in a serious car accident then died of cancer.

They're not white lies, my dear. A white lie is a small, harmless, discrete lie that does not rely upon maintaining a thousand other lies, that is intended to garner media attention or sympathy, or that fakes a cancer death.

Whatever that does to his draft prospects, I don't know. But they ain't white lies.

This is the most important part of the story. That, and he's a 21 yo Mormon (thats like being 12 when it comes to social awareness)

You said the Eagles didn't have to invest much money in Michael Vick
How about their reputation? And how much money is Michael Vick making now? lol, how about $100M over six years.
Do you still think your argument holds water?

Considering how gullible Manti is, I need to hit him up.

Dear Manti Te'o,

Confidential Business Proposal

Having consulted with my colleagues and based on the information gathered from the Nigerian Chambers Of Commerce And Industry, I have the privilege to request your assistance to transfer the sum of $47,500,000.00 (forty seven million, five hundred thousand United States dollars) into your accounts. The above sum resulted from an over-invoiced contract, executed, commissioned and paid for about five years (5) ago by a foreign contractor. This action was however intentional and since then the fund has been in a suspense account at The Central Bank Of Nigeria Apex Bank.

We are now ready to transfer the fund overseas and that is where you come in. It is important to inform you that as civil servants, we are forbidden to operate a foreign account; that is why we require your assistance. The total sum will be shared as follows: 70% for us, 25% for you and 5% for local and international expenses incidental to the transfer.

The transfer is risk free on both sides. I am an accountant with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). If you find this proposal acceptable, we shall require the following documents:

(a) your banker's name, telephone, account and fax numbers.

(b) your private telephone and fax numbers

holy shit, is this the next Watergate?

again, darling, we don't know the whole story. you're jumping to conclusions.

you don't know he made up the story. perpetrated against the nation at large? LOL.

Our posts assume he made it up or played along.

So did yours, as it referred to his conduct as dishonest. Not duped.

If he truly duped, god help him, he is a sad moron.

I think what his teammates are saying makes the most sense. he got sucked in, but then fed off the attention. i don't think it's a capital offense,or one that makes him unemployable in a career field full of thugs and criminals.

Looking to add a new dimension to their offense, the Philadelphia Eagles gave the disgraced quarterback a one-year deal with an option for a second year. Vick wasn't brought in to compete with five-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb for a starting job, but the two could end up on the field together.

Mike and Mike in the Morning

ESPN NFL reporter Sal Paolantonio describes the fan reaction as overwhelmingly negative at the Eagles-Patriots preseason game after the news came out that Vick signed to the Eagles.

The first year of the deal is for $1.6 million

FOXSports.com reported that the Cincinnati Bengals first offered Vick a two-year deal worth about $2.3 million.

Vick was the No. 1 draft pick in 2001 by the Atlanta Falcons and once the highest-paid player in football.

Too easy

If he's a winner and fills a need on the field they won't give a shit. American sports and media continually shows this.
