Manti Te

Dez Bryant cant function in society without having multiple babysitters. if they think he has the ability, he'll get a chance.

i'm not saying he'll go undrafted, but i doubt he'll be anywhere near the top ten, probably not even in the first round.

Like I said in my f/u post, how about Lawrence Phillips?
Te'o was a projected top 5 pick before this scandal.

His off field hijinks are desirable compared to the players that come out of San Quentin...I mean U. of Miami.

Ironically, I worked at San Quentin for a period of time.

Miami players having troubles with REAL GF's, weed etc... are somewhat expected from the general population of 20-22 year old men.
Having a fake GF who died of cancer and talking about it consistently for months on end, is just a new level of fucking insane.

really, after his showing against alabama in the national title game?

i would pick the alabama offensive line and the rb over him

i think people are overreacting to what he did. it's an interesting story, and people get pissed when someone dupes them, it makes them feel stupid, but unless he orchestrated the whole thing from the beginning, long term it's not a big deal.

Continue blathering.

Phillips would have gone 1 or 2 overall if he wasn't a psycho, and then had to have his rookie contract filled with conditions to protect the Rams against him fucking up.
The dude had immense talent but was totally unemployable.

I really don't know why or how you're trying to make a case for Te'o staying as a high draft prospect like he was during the season. On top of all this, he is a very mediocre LB by NFL standards.

Well if he's a "very mediocre LB by NFL standards" then I would expect THAT to effect his draft and career. This "controversy" will not.

That being said, he's the #1 Ranked LB coming out of college this year.

And projected to be one of the top 10 picks.

You know what, I'm not an NFL GM. I'm only telling you what the experts are saying.

So Lawrence Phillips domestic abuse is "expected" but a make believe gf is beyond the pale for NFL LB's?

it probably wouldn't have been as big a deal if it wasn't so embellished and then paraded in the media for such a long time. it speaks of a man with very questionable morals.

LOL read your own links, which allude to plummeting draft stock.
The guy is a decent football player. Prolly good enough to make a few million dollars off it if he can stick with a team.
However, there are so many guys out there with the physical skills of Te'o. He was lauded for his intangibles, which are now radioactively unattractive.

I watch about 100 college football games a year and another 50-60 pro games. Every year for the last decade. I can tell you the school and backstory of almost every player in the league. I read UDFA news, all 3 days of the draft, and constantly query players on nfldraftscout.com while watching college games. I would bet my account that Te'o doesn't go in the 1st round of the draft.

I still don't undertstand why you're sticking to your guns so hard on this besides perhaps being annoyingly stubborn and unwilling to admit you're wrong, which sounds like the logic used by a guy with an imaginary girlfriend...

different eras, yo. lawrence phillips didn't come into the nfl last year, that was nearly 20 years ago. in this day and age, i'd think teams would want to shy away from that. if a player had something similar to what phillips had back then, right now, he'd be screwed.

I think a lot of athletes have never been held to the same standards as other people and have questionable morals. the teams care that he works hard and plays well. some teams are looking for character guys, but i think a lot don't really give a shit as long as he doesn't get in enough trouble to miss games.

he's sticking up for one of his own :icon_lol:

Not expected from any individual. I'm saying that, on the aggregate, NFL GM's will always be evaluating cases of insanely talented guys from rough upbringings who get involved in fights and drugs. It's what happens to young males who get caught up in heated emotional situations and make dumbass decisions.

Never in the history of the game has a story like Te'o's come along and involving such a systematic deception including a fake girl dying of cancer. This is not a "moment of passion" mistake. It's fucking psychotic.

i'd be inclined to believe you if there weren't some many stories of scouts and gm's picking potential draft-picks' brains to find out what kind of guys they are. they've seen what happens when you take guys with attitude problems in the past, and i don't think they want to risk their jobs over a guy who might be a liability.

football is a violent, brutal sport played by violent, brutal people. i don't think they care about character nearly as much as they pretend.

This whole story is so weird none of it makes any sense. How was she his girlfriend but they never met? Who would bother setting up such an elaborate hoax?

What am I wrong about? That this is a silly story and shouldn't affect his career?

I beg to differ. Why can't you just admit that pro-sports are all about what you do on the court/field/ring to promote winning and nothing to do with what you do off of it?
