Goals & Gains MAGA - Make Awesome Gains Again!

FML. :(

I haven't trained in three days. Just chilling out on holiday, taking things easy. I get on a bus this afternoon, go to sit down - and my left knee gives a cracking sound.

It's been hurting since then. Not debilitating, but a dull ache every time I move my leg. I'm going to have to be very careful the next time I hit the gym. Might need to Deload a week early.

BJJ.

I had to miss a few weeks due to injuries, family problems etc, so it was good to get back on the mats. :)

The class covered two techniques against someone who has Turtled up. The first was a back-take rolling him into an Armbar. The second involved dragging him forward so you could put knee in to the gap and roll him into a Front Triangle.

Quite complicated, and even the Blue Belt I was partnered with had trouble with the second one.

Rolled three times. Twice with a Blue and once with a 3-stripe White. Both Tapped me, but interestingly, although they could take my back and set up an RNC, neither of them were able to finish it.

I'm not a BJJ guy and as you know the newaza is much more limited in Judo, but those 2 techniques sound very similar to ones we drill at our Judo club. I know RY has quite an extensive judo background, so wondering if this was something he learned from there? (I'm well aware there's plenty of crossover too!)

Funny you should say that: Rick mentioned first training one of the entries to the opponent's Turtle at the renowned Edinburgh(Judo)Club.

Rick joked that while in the changing room before a session, he was surprised to see black belt Judoka with jars of Nivea skin cream. He found out that it was because one of the techniques involved dragging the opponent face first across the mat, resulting in mat-burn to the forehead and cheeks.

"By the end of the week, I had bought my own jar of Nivea", Rick said.:)
