ThisIf you think Islam wasn’t going for finishes, then you need to watch more grappling.
JDM showed very good submission defense.
I actually think there is a general perception is he is boring that’s completely at odds with reality. Last 5 before last night. That’s literally not the perception of Islam, just another fake narrative. The perception has always been that he’s an entertaining fighter, in fact many folks made it a point to say he was the ONLY entertaining Dagi fighter.
Ok, I don’t understand you. I linked the official fight stats and you are talking about breathing. What a weirdo.Definitely not,the right person

Islam was fishing for subs the entire time but JDM did a good job of shutting them down before they became serious threats. To me, it’s a perfect example of how fighters on top get a lot more criticism though it’s actually the fighter on the bottom preventing things from happening. If you think Islam wasn’t going for finishes, then you need to watch more grappling.

I'm not sure they will be able to stop him after he beats Paddy. The UFC isn’t going to sacrifice one of their biggest stars in Illia Topurino , to the Wet Blanket gods.
It just doesn’t make sense, nobody wants to see Islam lay and pray Topuriano for 25 minutes, and Islam refuses to go for finishes.
I’ve said this in other threads, but a lot of the criticisms of the Dagis by a group of posters here are 100% bad faith, and you can tell because when there is a Dagi fighter who meets all the criteria they ask for in a fighter, they will deliberately and blatantly lie about them just to continue being critics. This dude literally said islam had a reputation as a boring fighter lol. Another poster accused Islam of not going for finishes even though he has 8 finishes in the last 10 fights!!! Twilight zone stuff.I actually think there is a general perception is he is boring that’s completely at odds with reality. Last 5 before last night.

Exactly. My guy gets it. JDM looked broken, but he did a fantastic job defending Islam’s submissions.Islam was fishing for subs the entire time but JDM did a good job of shutting them down before they became serious threats. No. I criticize the caucuses fighters in general because most of them are boring. They lay on top of their opponents until their opponents get frustrated and try to stand up, and give up their backs. When you successfully defend like JDM and DDP, they refuse to take risks and try to finish the fight.I’ve said this in other threads, but a lot of the criticisms of the Dagis by a group of posters here are 100% bad faith, and you can tell because when there is a Dagi fighter who meets all the criteria they ask for in a fighter, they will deliberately and blatantly lie about them just to continue being critics. And JDM took no risks to escape or get up. Pure defense, he’s more deserving of your ire. He played it safe because he was afraid of the threat being presented.No.
Islam was fishing for SAFE subs the entire time. There's a difference between what GSP did and what Islam did. GSP went for full-on Kimura's, armbars, etc. He was willing to take risks and give up position to finish fights.
Islam prioritizes safety and control. When was the last time you saw Islam give up position for an armbar? He fishes for those non-threatening Kimuras because he doesn't want to give up position. He likes the D'Arce choke and arm triangle because they can be set up with minimal risk from half guard & side control, without risking a scramble and losing position. Islam fights safe to prioritize control, not finish the fight.
Islam only gets the submission when people make mistakes give him easy submissions. This usually happens because people get frustrated being held down, and try to stand up. That's why you can't just stand up against Islam. JDM came in well prepared for Islam's tricks and defended successfully. And Islam never tried to mix it up and go for a submission that could cost him position.
It's not on JDM to take a risk and stand up.And JDM took no risks to escape or get up. Pure defense, he’s more deserving of your ire. He played it safe because he was afraid of the threat being presented.
It’s not on the losing guy to take a risk? Get real dude. JDM was the guy doing nothing, attempting “safe” fight ending techniques is better than not attempting anything remotely offensive. It's not on JDM to take a risk and stand up.
It's on Islam to finish the fight like Khabib would have finished the fight.
Khabib is a perfect example of dominant grappling. He broke people and took risks to smash them. Islam lays on them until they get frustrated, try to stand up, make a mistake and give him an easy submission.
You can't ban what Khabib did with rule changes. You can ban what Islam does with rule changes. That's the difference.
Yes, it's not on the losing guy to take risks. Another shertard that failed logic 101.It’s not on the losing guy to take a risk? Get real dude. JDM was the guy doing nothing, attempting “safe” fight ending techniques is better than not attempting anything remotely offensive.
Idiotic take. If you’re losing, it’s on you to take the risk and reverse fortunes. Putting the onus on the guy doing more already is completely asinine. Why the fuck should a winning fighter take risks to allow his opponent a way back in? This is playing any sport 101.Yes, it's not on the losing guy to take risks. Another shertard that failed logic 101.
You've got a fighter that is completely limped. He can't move very well. He's plodding forward and trying to throw haymakers, willing to lay down and go to the ground to try for a submission. But his opponent keeps refusing to engage, just dancing around him landing jabs and leg kicks for 15 more minutes [to win a safe decision].
You're going to blame the limped fighter for being unable to do anything? Give me a fucking break. It's on the fighter with every advantage to take risks and try to finish the fight.

Name one other “commercial sport entertainment” where the winning team is expected to play more risky. No, putting the onus on the fighter that is being dominated is asinine.
The winning fighter should take risks because this is COMMERCIAL SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT.
This isn't the fucking olympics. If you want pure sport, go watch olympic boxing or BJJ.
I wasn’t talking about you, I had a couple other posters in minds. The usual suspects. From what I’ve seen you’re pretty fair.No. I criticize the caucuses fighters in general because most of them are boring. They lay on top of their opponents until their opponents get frustrated and try to stand up, and give up their backs. When you successfully defend like JDM and DDP, they refuse to take risks and try to finish the fight.
Khabib was different. I have so much reverence for Khabib because that guy WANTED to finish fights. He actually tried to advance positions, pass guard (to mount), and opened up for huge punches on the ground. Khabib broke fighters with his dominance.
Islam just lays on people and waits for them to get frustrated and try to stand up, then he fishes for his easy safe submissions. Otherwise if you do what JDM did, he just blankets you. Khabib would have finished JDM.
Ah sorry my bad. I've been in so many arguments on the matter.I wasn’t talking about you, I had a couple other posters in minds. The usual suspects. From what I’ve seen you’re pretty fair.
Ok, I guess I'll have to cope with the fact the main event put me to sleep, and you can cope that you have the conversation skills of a 12 year old.Cope lol
