Goals & Gains Lug's Spear: Unleashed S&P

Alright so I realized that my lifting has suffered greatly after I stopped logging my workouts on here so I am back with some new goals.

Goals

-Weight at least 145 lbs w/ low bf% for jiu jitsu competition (last month I was the smallest at NAGA)

-Increase strength (improve squat, deadlift, SOHP, BOR, and bench)

-Increase high intensity endurance for BJJ (jump rope and hill sprints?)

Update, motherfucker! Hit that bodyweight press yet? P.S. I mve to Colorado, so the Oly chick at Coffee's is all yours.

Thanks! I've been getting injured a lot and my lifting has become almost non-existant (left hip injury, whiplash from neck crank, currently left wrist is sore from not tapping to a wrist lock at a BJJ tournament).

How has it been going 10thpjj?

Bummer dude! I hate injuries, had a few my self. Been plagued by a left knee injury for some time! :icon_sad:

Other than that though, pretty good. However, March is going to be a killer, as uni is in full force! Dissertation is due in March 24th so it's all work and no play for me! (except some cheeky lifting :P )

Alright time to get back into a freaking consistent lifting schedule.

DEADLIFTS

225lbs X 4
225lbs X 4
225lbs X 4

Notes:

Wrist was a hurtin a little bit until I adjusted my grip on the bench press. Squats went good, hips felt a little tight on the first set, but that got better. On the deadlifts my knee was feelin' a little wonky, but it felt better after the first two sets. I guess I need to warm up more since I feel better in my joints as the sets go on.

Good work, Lug. To greatness.

I haven't been there since I left for Ireland last summer. Yeah, my lifting has gone that bad. How is Colorado treating you? Bodyweight press isn't even close and I am afraid to try it since my left wrist is in bad shape. I guess next time no matter how bad I want a medal I'll tap to a pansy wrist lock

Notes

Going to go up on squats next week, pretty easy and just trying to get back into it. The end of the 4th set of rows made my right wrist hurt, hopefully it's nothing and will go away over night... otherwise that is lame to have two hurt wrists. Gotta find a way to do some more cardio for BJJ.

Notes: I reinjured my neck in rolling not too long ago. I finally feel 100%. I have been doing wrist levering with my sledgehammer to prehab my left wrist. So all my BJJ related injuries are finally good to go. I start back rolling tomorrow, I pray my neck really is fine. I don't think I could stand not being able to roll any longer.

Colorado's been incredible. I actually flew back into town for spring break, but I'm out tomorrow.

Jiu jitsu ruins lifters, man. You and Snitz both got your arms raped and have the press AIDZ now. Glad to hear you're feeling recovered, though. The strength will be back in no time.

NOTES: I don't think I will be doing much pulling for the next few days. I tore a callus on my left hand and on my right hand. I was using chalk so it surprised me. All this non-lifting lately has caused my calluses to get soft I guess. I am coming off of a twisting knee bar injury so I am trying to progress my squat slowly. So far my knee feels better than it has since the injury, I'm tempted to say it's almost completely healed (it has been 4 months).

UPDATES: Since the last time I was consistently logging I have accomplished a lot of my long term goals (not lifting related however). I recieved my blue belt in BJJ last may and also graduated college with a B.S. in Psychology. I am currently a substitute teacher as well as assistant teacher for autistic children at a private school for autistic children. I am discovering that my grappling skills (as bad as this sounds) comes in handy when working with these children.

NEW GOALS: Bring my lifting to higher levels than ever before and get to 150 - 155 lbs (gain 10 to 15 pounds), and continue to add to my jiu jitsu game.

Running: 3 miles @ 30 minutes

Sledge Hammer Levering: Helicopters, Up/Down, Side to Side

Neck: Supine chin to chest, supine ear to shoulder (not sure what else to call these)

Notes: I'm hoping to get some forearm strength going for gi grips and neck strength since my neck acts up every once in a while from an old grappling injury. I'm looking to get my 3 mile time to 20 minutes. I have a lot of work to do.

Welcome back. Hope your knee is back to 100%. Congrats on hitting your non-lifting goals. Is teaching something you want to do long-term?

DrB! How the hell are ya? How did your Ireland trip go (I'm sure that was a while ago). Thank you very much. That is a good question. Honestly I enjoy the work to the point where I could do that for the rest of my life. However... the money is not good. I am hoping to use this experience to make myself more appealing to grad programs. No matter what the money is like and the experience, the work makes you feel good about contributing to society.

Welcome back! Congats on getting your blue belt.

Lol!

Ireland was awesome. We put over 5000 km on our rental car and I wasn't in a single accident :) My wife chickened out and didn't try driving. I'd love to go back but I don't think a big overseas trip will happen for a while.

Yeah teaching isn't something that you do if you want to be rich and it can be tough. I have a few teacher friends that seem to alternate between thinking it's really rewarding and thinking the kids are terrors and they need to get new jobs.

Thanks! I have been eye balling that belt for a while now. It's a good motivational tool to keep training now that I know I have to perform at a certain level when I show up.

It's true though, the whole reason I have my job (or so I believe) is because I am able to handle the kids well. Jiu jitsu is allowing me to handle the kids without putting them at risk. I can easily control them if they try to get up and run away as a form of task avoidance. It is "the gentle way" martial art after all. I can tell you that I have used the 50/50 guard to do foot re-education/massaging, maintaining the back control while doing hand therapy, and who knows what else.

How is the lifting going hatchoo? It's good to hear from ya

What was your favorite part of the trip? Were the round abouts nerve racking? What cities/part of Ireland did you make it to?

I have no problem with the kids, they are great. I just don't want to have a family that I can't support well enough to provide what they need.
