-Didn't really want to do these because my knee hurt earlier today just from walking around... but I didn't feel like standing around waiting on the bench. It didn't seem harm my knee, but it seems that I usually find out the next day.

Notes: I just really wanted to get in the gym. This knee thing has kind of bummed me out. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to keep squatting, but right now my knee doesn't seem to be any worse from doing it. I'm going to try to do some SOHP and Benching while I'm on my trip and hopefully some squatting (god willing).

That sucks dude. Just don't rush things, if your knee bothers you just ease up on the squats. Maybe your bench and sohp would catch up with your deads/squats :D

hah, thanks hatchoo. I do need to work that SOHP. I don't give it nearly enough attention. I really hope that in a month it magically fixes itself.

good shit in here Lug, I like the frontsquating.

Thanks roy!

Tennis
-1hr, it was blazing hot. The high was 92 degrees and I felt like I was melting. Just hit the ball around and didn't play any games.

BJJ
-2hrs, just working technique. Worked with my buddy on the wrestling mat trying to figure out the deep halfguard. I want to add it to my game and I already had the DVD Jeff Glover made, but didn't study it too hard. Worked on setting it up from some different entries and worked the homer simpson sweep. After seeing little nog pull it off and seeing how jeff glover is a small dude like myself it makes me want to give it a shot. I love playing halfguard anyway so it's easy to get motived to study the stuff.

Reporting in from Ireland

I've been here for a week now and the scenery is beautiful beyond words. We have been to a ton of places already, they run us ragged driving across the country to check out stuff, but it's worth the fatigue. Some notable places... castle blarney, woodstock gardens, ring of kerry and a lot of others. I'm staying in Waterford at the campus of Waterford Institute of Technology. We're going to Dublin in two weeks and I plan on staying there the weekend with some classmates. I'll most likely get into some trouble there if it's anything like the other weekend trip to Kilarney. I also managed to get a ticket to the Hurling finals (big Irish sport here between the different counties). I'll be repping Waterford in the White/Blue.

I checked out the gym situation here and it's grim. I walked about 25 minutes to the new WIT campus' gym and it sucked balls. They had DB's going up to 60 lbs, but that's it. Not even one barbell. It's not even worth the walk so I'm going to start doing some BW exercises in my room. I'll post in the main forum for some suggestions, but if you read this first a BW routine would be nice.

- Pushups and variations (feet-raised, offset [one hand on a block for added difficulty])
- Hindu pushups
- Various Crunches (turtle crunches, staggered leg crunches [one leg raise slightly with the other leg raised higher and bent at the knee...focuses on one side of the abdomen at a time])
- Bodyweight squats, Overhead squats holding various objects
- Star Jumps 10x3
- Broad Jumps 10x3
- Hill sprints

That's all I got.

I'll be interested in hearing what you think of hurling. I'm hoping to take in some gaelic sports when I'm in Dublin.

Did you kiss the Blarney stone?

Thanks man, I might need to look up what a hindu pushup is though.

Did you kiss the Blarney stone?

The locals have told me the sport is brutal when I ask, but I still haven't caught any of it on TV or anything. I keep seeing billboards advertising the finals, it's apparently a big thing and I had to pay a pretty penny to get ahold of a ticket, but it seems like something that will pay off.

Some random things I have noticed... If you go to the grocery store, bring some bags with you to carry the food back. This place is really environmentally conscious and they don't use plastic bags at grocery stores. Some other kinds of stores still use them though. Also they don't have coffee pots here, they use these weird things that heat up water, but you're supposed to just dump coffee into them with the water and heat it up... the problem is coffe grounds get all up in your cup of coffee unless you buy some filters that you sit in your cup and pour the coffee over. I did kiss the blarney stone, honestly it seems kind of like one of those things you do just to say you did it. The stone doesn't look any different from the rest of the castle wall, you get the feeling that you're being suckered when you kiss it. Still a fun experience though.

Notes: Feels great to be back in the gym, but I expect a lot of soreness in the next couple weeks. I got a cold so I can focus more on lifting for a week or so since I can't do BJJ while sick.

Welcome back lugs! I was wondering what happened to you. How was Ireland? What did you study?

Welcome back! How was the hurling? What other sights did you check out? I'm sure your strength will come back quickly, don't sweat it.

Ireland was amazing, easily the best 5 weeks of my life. I took art appreciation and drawing irish landscapes. It was nice to get some art done since I haven't done much since I left high school even though I originally wanted to be an art major... but that's another story. I could easily seeing myself going back.

I take it the knee got a lot of rest? How's it feeling?

Yeah if that didn't make my knee better I don't know what will, even though I spent a lot of time walking around with a 20lb backpack. How is your training going?

The hurling was awesome, all of the locals at the pubs told me that's where you see the real Ireland and I believe it to be true. The Gaelic sports in Ireland really brings everyone together. If you have a chance to see one when you go on your honeymoon you should check it out. I'm going to start posting some pictures of my trip in here whenever I log a workout. I saw so much stuff I'm not sure I can even remember it all. If your looking for a good bar scene you can't go wrong with kerry or dublin's temple bar district. The ring of Kerry was amazing, well worth the trip there. Tramore was a beautiful beach city that has some nice adventure stuff to do. I went rock climbing in Ardmore which was fun, but I think I'd rather try some sea kayaking next time. I also went to Galway and saw the cliffs of moher, which was really nice. There is just so much to do in Ireland and you can't really go wrong.

Notes: The deadlift pissed me off, I am significantly weaker than when I left. Fuck. My knee felt kind of funny, can't really describe it, after I got back to my house. I forgot to bring my knee sleeves so that might have somethin to do with it. Well I just gotta get back on the horse I guess, but damn that was demoralizing.

Sounds like a sick trip, man. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. My training is going alright. I'm making forward strides, and my body is holding together for now.

Don't sweat the first workout. You're not supposed to be manhandling the weight you were using before a 5 week layoff. It'll come back soon.

-Easy reps, but still made my legs sore the second I got done. I'm starting to wonder if my weak squat is why my knee hurts from deadlifting usually. Maybe a muscle imbalance or somethin?

Yeah man I had a blast. Glad to hear you're keeping those training injuries to a minimum brah. I'm gonna start up alliance within the next couple of days... I tore up my hand rock climbing so I can't really grab a gi right now.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I'm starting to accept it now. The deadlift took a big hit since I left and I was expecting it to be a lot less. I guess I just gotta get in there.

Running
-3 miles in the hot Georgia sun.

Notes: Went as soon as I woke up... may have been dehydrated. Gotta run more often because I felt pathetic out there.
