Notes: Not feeling so great, I have been sick for about 3 weeks now... time to see a doc.

How come you're wearing a jacket and hat in that first Ireland pic? What was the weather like? Was it chilly?

Is it AIDS? Just kidding

How's your knee?

My knee feels fine, but I am actually afraid to run/deadlift because of how it was before I left. I feel slight hints of uncomfortableness in my knee, but I'm wondering how much of it is in my head. Either way... I'm just gonna take running and deadlifting nice and easy for now.

It was raining that day and when it rains it gets cold. Otherwise shorts and a t-shirt work fine for the sunny days. It was in the low to high 60's while I was there. Make sure you bring a waterproof jacket by the way and have a spare set of shoes nearby. I went two days with wet shoes during a weekend trip and it sucked.

I forgot to post a pic for my last workout sooo here it is.

Irish trip pic - Hore abbey looking to Cashel.

The interesting thing about Cashel is that it's unlike many churches during its time, this one has a defense tower built right next to it and it was built with a wooden roof when it was constructed (guess I did learn something in art appreciation).

I see, temps in the 60's isn't too bad. I'm definitely bringing a rain jacket since everyone tells me that it will rain a lot. I read something that said if it's raining in the morning don't worry, it will be sunny in the afternoon and if it's sunny in the morning get outside because it will be raining by the afternoon, lol. I need to buy another good pair of shoes since right now I only have a pair of hiking shoes that I pretty much live in. Man... I'm actually leaving 1 month today and I have a lot of stuff to do!

That picture is pretty cool.

I thought the weather was really nice and even better when I compare it to this Georgia inferno weather. My professor who is from Dublin said that in Ireland you can't wait on the rain because there is no knowing how long it will last. My professors said to bring waterproof shoes and I used them occasionally, but if you sit your wet ones on the windowsill for a day or two they will be dry again and you can just use your other pair in the meantime... unless it's still raining all day then you might be screwed. I bet you and your significant other can't wait! It was truly a great experience and I see myself going back again to see the rest of the place.

All I could think about while taking that picture was "Can you imagine having this sitting right outside of your house?" There was a residential area right next to Hore Abbey, which is where I took the picture from.

BJJ - 1h30
-Trying out another gym, this one was pretty cool. It's got everything you could ever want for martial arts and the BJJ instructor was cool as hell. The quality of the grapplers was not nearly as good as Alliance, but this is more of an MMA gym. I'm fairly sure I'm going to sign up here, but I want to milk the first free week for all it's worth.

-Worked on a sweep from guard where you shrimp out, get a butterfly hook, close the space, stretch the guy out, and scissor the legs for a sweep.
-Mount fundamentals
-Rolled for a while with a 4 stripe white guy, I think I could get him next time. He had some weight on me, but I was able to make some good submission chains.
-Rolled with the Instructor who is a Pedro Sauer black belt. He was really friendly and gave me tips whenever I messed up. He seems like a really good coach.

I keep forgetting to log so...

-Sore as hell, but these are fun to grind out.

Monday - 8/9/10

1pm BJJ class
-Worked on transitioning to mount from side control w/ cross facing. Drilled repeatedly and then rolled. I do fairly well in rolling against people my own size, but I need to be more a little more conservative with placing my arms against the bigger dudes.

6:30pm BJJ class
-Worked on using the kimura from side control if the guy on bottom reaches for the underhook. Drilled it for a while and then did some rolling. I got matched up a blue belt that was really good. He was far more skilled than the other ones that I rolled with.

Notes: As of right now my body is sore all over and it hurts the left side of my throat when I swallow because this one dude didn't let go when I tapped. It was a big kid who was trying to muscle me out and I had to do the seizure tap where I stamp my feet. After he did that I pretty much molested him with top control, but my submission game isn't really good outside of my guard so that's the best I could do... Anyway gonna see if I can make myself do the Gi takedown class tonight.

BJJ/Takedown class (new color for BJJ)
-We drilled the foot sweep to armbar (judo style armbar) for a while.
-Worked the same drills I've been doing in the past three classes, cross face to knee on belly to mount as well as kimura from side control when the dewd reaches for an underhook.
-Rolled with my friends who are amateur fighters, one a blue belt and the other a purple. It was really fun and I'm getting a lot better with every roll I have. :icon_chee

Notes: My body is pretty beat up right now and I think I sadly need a rest day. Mat burn on my upper back (from bridging with the gi on?), elbows, knees, and some gi burn on my chin. Left side of my throat hurts, right side of my neck hurts, foot hurts from my friend cranking an ankle lock... yup, rest day, but worth it.

Wow, those pics are beautiful. Ireland looks like an interesting place to go to for relaxation.

By the way, how long did it take for your inzer belt to get shipped? You have a green one right? I'm buying one in a few days (10mm lever belt, i don't think i'll ever need a 13mm for my size) and i just want to know what your experience with their service was.

Yeah it was really peaceful and I would recommend it if you're looking for a vacation to unwind. Although I hear it gets pretty cold if you don't go in July/August.

It took as long as they said, I think it was 2 weeks? The service was ok, at one point I called to check what was up and someone looked up the tracking from UPS and told me about my ETA. It would be nice if they sent the tracking number via email to avoid that.

Rehab Sledge Hammer Levering
-Helicopters (clockwise and counterclockwise) X 10
-Forward Lever X 10
-Reverse Lever X 10
-Side to Side Lever X 10

Notes: I got caught in a good armbar and my sparring opponent must have been frustrated with my scrambling or something and cranked it. This happened about two weeks ago and it still hurts, but is feeling a lot better at this point. Hopefully the levering with help with the recovery.

Irish Trip Pic - Mahun Falls. The place was very spiritual and is littered with sheep/goats. Definitely a place I wish I had more time to explore.

Notes: My forearm feels almost completely healed at this point. It's amazing what a little bit of light exercise can do. This makes me pretty happy... but I still can't grapple since I have this damn cold. I'm still gonna lift tomorrow regardless.

That picture is gorgeous! I'm so jealous...although my Yellowstone pictures are probably equal in beauty :D

Notes: Going to TN with the gf this weekend so I gotta get the lifting in during the week. It's not so bad going after a boring class. Not really a big fan of 5x5 deads though, but I think it will be better for BJJ than 3X3.

3 mile run, low intensity
-forcused on running on my toes the entire time in an attempt to lessen the impact on my knees. My knee feels better than it has in a long time so it seems like it worked.

Notes: No time for a 3rd lifting day this week since I'm stuck doing homework for the next couple hours until I leave for TN. Stupid Establishing Operations, this shit doesn't even make sense anyway... I'd rather be lifting.

What the fuck Luggernuts? I stop by to see how my old buddy from Coffee's is doing and you're slacking on me?!
