Goals & Gains Lug's Spear: Unleashed S&P

Round 2, a second lifting session 3 hours after the oly lessons.

BENCH
135X5
155X5
155X4
160X3
165X3
-I was working on the form, I think I am starting to feel the shoulder blade pinch thing... but I feel like my arch isn't very good still.

DEADLIFT
135X5
225X5
255X5
-belt- (first time woo!)
275X3
295X2
295X1
315X1 (PR)
-So for the big 4 comp my estimated PR was 315 and I think that was about right.

Notes: I wasn't very motivated to lift a second time today, but being able to use a belt for the first time was kind of cool. It sure is a beautiful piece of equipment. I'm glad I went through with it and decided to deadlift today.

Wooooooooo! 3 COOKIES! Let's see the belt, baby!

Yessir, can't wait until I can hit it for triples! That belt, she's a beaut!

That is a handsome piece of equipment. I might have to get me a 13mm for real deal shit one of these days. And a prong for teh oly shits. I need to get a color that beats yours...

There are plenty of shweet colors to pick from, but I think they need to post some better pictures on their site. Why prong for oly lifting?

There is some legit fucking lifting going on in here.
If I can DL 315 and C&J 135 by the end of 2010 that would be awesome.

That's a beautiful belt you got there. Is that an inzer? How much did you pay for it? i only have those belts that you can find on sporting goods. Took me about 2 squat sessions to get used to them.

Congrats on the PR!

They really do.

The lever tends to get in the way on clean and snatch variants.

Thank ya sir! I believe in you roy, you can do eet!

Thank ya, that's the 13mm lever belt made by inzer yup yup. I think it came out to being $99 after shipping. I haven't tried squatting with it yet, but I am looking forward to it. Do people typically wear their belt tighter for squats?

They really do.

The lever tends to get in the way on clean and snatch variants.

Do you think you could wear the belt with the lever perhaps on the side or at your back to avoid that? I'm determined to use my lever belt for snatching/cleaning.

I bet you could, but mine is molded pretty well to the shape where the lever is in the front.

People do tend to wear their belts tighter for squats than deadlifts. Most people find that their head tried to explode if they try to get into DL starting position with their belt set for squats. Especially with a 13mm hoss of a belt.

I bet you could get that belt to work for you if started bending it around a lot. I'm starting to think that I could have had my belt tighter for the deads yesterday. Going to have to mess around with the settings some more.

I'm not sure about people wearing their belt tighter for squats, but what BlackDog said makes sense. That's why after i wear my belt i just go straight to my lift coz it's hard to breathe. I could never understand those people that wear them at the gym all the time. I see them as posers..

First time i squated with a belt it felt weird coz it kept moving up. Then i realized that i was wearing my belt too low. After i found that right spot i never had that problem anymore.

Notes: The snatches made my elbows hurt while I was doing them, but that went away. Still going to icy hot the shyte out of them tonight. Hamstring on my rear leg from doing split jerks got tight when I did front squats, going to start wearing these knee sleeves since I got 'em. Pretty happy about learning how to clean, might actually be able to use the 45's now at my school gym.

Icy hot won't do anything for intramuscular inflammation, it just interrupts the pain feedback loop for a time. Same with all of the topical analgesics. Contrasting with ice and heat will be helpful though. Are you making sure to turn your elbows out (the opposite of bench press) when you snatch? If you're not it could explain why they're hurting.

You sound really smart. I have some trouble with my bench, think you could help?

Yeah that's my experience, a lot of people just like using the equipment because they think it's what they should be doing... though the haven't done their research. What makes the lever belt good is you can have the belt on your waste open between sets and then close it with the lever when you're ready to start the set. I was trying to center my bellybutton to the middle of the belt, I think that's right?

You jerk there goes my 5% chance of a placebo effect! I guess if I'm not lazy I'll use ice/heat next time. The reason my elbows were hurting from snatching was because I was trying to save a couple snatches that should have been dropped and that put more pressure on my elbows. Thanks for the input good sir.

Obviously switching to a thumbless grip would help :icon_twis

Congrats on the deadlift PR! I better pull a new PR soon so I can stay ahead of you (old PR is 335) on the deads at least.

Good job with the DL PR and nice belt. :)

Thank ya DS!

Me... I would never try to beat your PR...

/dives through 2nd story glass window, runs to the curb and steals someone's cab, tires squeel, the cab crashes through the local YMCA wall, and I dive out into a roll and attempt a 337.5 deadlift.
