literary, get scared bros get in here

i am in search of books that will scare me into sleepless nights. recently, i have read 'bird box' and 'the ruins,' both from reddit recommendations. both were decent and had their 'oh shit' moments but neither were in the vein of, "whelp, there goes sleep for a while."

honestly, the 'scariest' book i have ever read was 'the road.' and it wasn't scary at all in the traditional sense, but i definitely felt the hopelessness of their situation.

help me feel alive inside.

Instead of not sleeping, look into lucid dreaming.

<30> AND BECOME WOKE.

The only time I got scared by a book was a Chuck Palahniuk short story called Guts. I say scared, but it was more like I broke into a cold sweat and had dat sinking feeling as I read it. It's definitely the most discomforting shit I've read.

Pet Sematary by Stephen King stuck with me for a while. It's also a pretty short read. Should definitely check it out, some uneasy vibes.

I’ve read some horrror and all of Stephen king. Nothing is really scary (as I’m an adult).

Having said that Salem’s Lot (by King) made me hold my breath during a few passages. Highly recommended.

Check into Nick Cutter.

My husband read and enjoyed The Troop.

I read and enjoyed The Deep. More horror than Bird Box.
interesting. 'the troop' has been a book on my list for a while.

I thought that Jurassic Park was a helluva tense read. Pretty scary moments, for sure. Way way WAY better than any of the movies.

Stephen King's book of short stories was great. The Night Shift.

There's an unsolved murders thread or something along those lines floating around here somewhere that's got some legit creepy real life stuff in it.

I would google search the stories and hit up the wiki pages for them if they existed. Some decent stuff for reading imo. I'll try to dig it up later and link it to this thread.

Speaking of Cormacs works (you mentioned The Road) have you checked out 'Blood Meridian'? Not necessarily a creepy book, but it has some pretty violent moments in it.

House of Leaves
+1 on House of Leaves.
Clive Barkers Books of Blood has a couple pretty scary stories in it. The Song of Kali by Dan Simmons was a damn haunting read but not downright scary.
