List of surprisingly physically strong fighters

I'm not disagreeing with you, but i think we're talking about different types of strengths, i think Cro Cop could deadlift and bench more than Cormier but i think Cormier could throw Barnett better than Cro Cop could, for example.

I believe there is a difference in explosive strength and just raw "moving" strength/contraction strength or how else i should explain it, i'm not sure.

Very good mention, Super Samoan Strength.

Reminds me of another Olivera who's lanky, who i have heard and seen is very strong.

God Given strength, coupled with extensive cowboy activities and working out

Not guys like Pudzianowski, Ngannou, Brock etc, we all know they're very strong.
But people who are not necessarily associated with being extraordinarily strong.

From what i've heard:

Cro Cop - apparently very strong, several fighters have talked about this through first hand experience.

Rumble - aside from his monster power, he was told when he was younger that he was very strong, especially extreme grip strength.

Tim Elliot - apparently deceptively strong.

Dan Henderson - according to Rogan "hard as wood", posessing that mystical "old man strength", and i suppose his power has something to do with that somehow, because he's not very explosive. Jon Jones also mentioned that he was surprisingly strong after grappling with him.

Alexey Oleynik - Heard that he has extreme grip strength and all that general crackle pop submission strength.

Ilir Latifi - obviously a very strong guy but according to DC one of the strongest he has ever felt.

Rampage - obviously not a weak guy but dang he could slam people left and right with little effort.

(squeezing in an honorable mention here, pardon the pun)
Demian Maia - surprising squeeze strength, but of course all the skill to go with it.

( and just a little mention)
Arnold Allen - from a family competing in strongman but i haven't heard anything about some extraordinary strength.

(Please do feel free to add the sources of these statements as i don't remember them all.)

Good list

Which goes to show, looking like a bodybuilder means jack shit in mma

Oh and obligatory...

"Even though I knew Rampage was strong, until I fought him I had no clue just how strong one guy could be. I trained very hard on my strength and explosive power, but Rampage was on another in that department in our fight while I was always physically stronger when I wrestled Jon.

"Rampage has something he's been born with, that power and explosive strength. He's like an alligator, he can just explode and it's kinda freaky."
Who said this? Rashad?

Latiffi.. how is he “surprising”.. I mean the guy is built like a tank and ridiculously big muscles. He “looks” strong as hell.

The real surprise is Damian Maia. They say the dude has both technique and incredible strength.

Cowboy Olivera is allegedly incredibly strong

anderson silva
just based on bodies, rich franklins team was sure he'd be way stronger than silva in the clinch. but silva was stronger

Definitely T Ferg, he ankle picked Werdum, Abdelaziz is afraid to even mention T Ferg by name because he doesn't want T Ferg to expose any of his fighters

I think Jon's strength comes from his abnormal leverage.
... over USADA.
<JonesLaugh>

Word was that Matt Hughes was freakishly strong.
Karo Parisyan, also.

Who won that damn fight? It was Houston, right? For a long time I really couldn't remember.
Maybe I tried to putnit behind me because I felt like I'd lost by the end of that showing.

When I met Dan Henderson I was shocked how small he is, considering he's a guy who has fought even HWs. Even though he spent most of his time at 205 & 185, I'm sure most 2019 MWs are bigger than him. However, when I shook his hand, my goodness the man has gorilla grip

Crocop was super jacked and failed the very first and only random PEDS test he ever took. He had a cartoonishly bad career spiral in the states, almost immediately after winning the Grand Prix. He's back to looking super jacked and winning fights overseas.

How is it confusing or surprising that a guy on PEDS with huge muscles is physically strong?

FFS Latifi? He's a power lifter built like a can of soup.
Crocop was the same size when he began his career in the UFC, ironically it was after he began fighting in the UFC that he went from 222 to 235 and had noticeably more muscle.

exactly how I felt when I met him and DC. DC is like barely 5'10 and Hendo I am not too sure about. maybe slightly taller but he had terrible posture. When I shook their hands, I was like Jesus Christ that felt like a mangle.

How is GSP not on this list? Chael Sonnen has went on record quite a few times saying how he grappled in training with GSP a couple of times and he was surprised.... Chael said that bar none, regardless of weight class, GSP was the strongest guy he ever rolled with, like deceptively strong, Chael gets a bit flustered talking about it
