List of surprisingly physically strong fighters

No one in your list is "surprisingly" strong, TS. You basically listed a bunch of HW..

Khabib is someone that doesn't look very strong but he grapples with much bigger fighters in training and holds his own.

Old Man Randy said Vitor Belfort was a monster.

Rocksalt, The Count, and Hendo agreed.

Jones, GSP and Lawler (against Rory) seem surprisingly strong. Suspiciously strong I'd say. Only Jones has been caught on PEDs, though.

If I told people to estimate Tamden McRory's deadlift, I'm sure they wouldn't guess it was around 550 lbs.

He's as gangly as they get but has legit strunf.

Eddie Wineland apparently hit a 475 pound deadlift as a BW. Don't know if it's true, but if so that's big for a little guy like him. Kawajiri benched 315 with minimal effort as a young MMA fighter coming up in the game and that too is pretty impressive, although when you look at his physique it kinda makes sense.

Mariusz Pudzianowski is obviously the strongest MMA fighter ever without competition.

Not that surprisingly though.

But still strong enough to even take that title.. fuck it.

Strength wise in his prime he was an absolute beast, most experts from strength fields (olympic lifting, strongman, power lifting) agree that he was one of the overall strongest men ever, period. Genetics + amazing training dedication + crazy nutrition + chemistry = freak.

I've heard plenty of guys who've trained with him like Rashad and Travis Browne say that his hand grip strength is insane.
Probably has huge hands. I work with a Kenyan that's handshake feels like a python death grip. It's like his fingers wrap around twice, and all he does is work on a computer, no weight training etc.

Mas Oyama said that punching power is directly related to grip strength. I think a stronger hand is just denser. Think of smashing something with a metal mallet vs a rubber mallet with the same force.

Yoel Romero

1. No one would ever be surprised at the revelation that Yoel Romero is strong.

2. Awesomeness aside, that gif is more of a testament to his timing and technique than to his strength. Despite his imposing physique, he’s more lauded in wrestling circles for his technique than his power.

Yeah really no need for experts here... 5 time world strongest man... is a thing...

lol idk about any of those guys.

Someone who is surprisingly strong would be someone lanky.
Jon Jones for instance.

Mark Hunt.

Overeem has said Hunt is by far the strongest guy he's ever fought and when he fought Hunt he was already on the horse meat.

and then there's the fact that Mark Hunt beat Bob Sapp pretty easily in a tug of war match

Was going to post this clip, assumed he was strong but not that strong
