List of surprisingly physically strong fighters

That's exactly the thing, the leverage must have been insane

Yeah, it's totally the wrong way to lift a guy, and he just does it anyway. And it even looks like the opponent jumps to assist him, like a pro wrestling spot, but he's of course not actually doing that.

Jake Shields is apparently stupid strong according to various opponents

I've heard a lot of fighters say Jake Shields.

Admitting you took PEDS immediately pursuant to a random PEDS test is failing.

You keep saying this as if it's an actual fact and not just your own subjective rationalization. Meanwhile it's pretty objectively clear that he passed the test since, ya know, he literally passed the test as nothing came up dirty

It's a pretty important point that you're trying to gloss over with your claim that he failed a PED test. The point being, it was such a low dose of HGH that it didn't even show up on a test. Seems pretty plausible that he might indeed have been taking a low dose to recover from injury rather than to gain an unfair advantage. But feel free to ignore that in favor of your weird "he failed a PED test" logic

I dont think thats surprising. Hes a big, jacked guy who could easily fight at HW. Hes probably stronger than Ngannou.
Which would legitimize my point, Ngannou is clearly the bigger guy, yet Rumble would be stronger (i don't personally think so, but i'm picking Rumble because i think he's stronger than most guys that are bigger than him)

I've heard a lot of fighters say Jake Shields.

Perfect example, i've heard the same.

I got to roll with Randy Couture back in the day at an event. I think it was at Ryan Hoover's gym in Gastonia. I was shocked how strong he was. And I mean all over - standing, based out, even his fucking neck lol. I'm a pretty big guy and he absolutely mauled me.
Yeah i remember after Randy beat Vera, Vera said he was very strong.

I think Jon Jones is #1 on this. Yes he is a LHW and tall, but if you look at his frame, it's amazing he is able to out muscle a guy like DC so easily. He is amazingly strong.

I go with what i've heard from other fighters or people who have had experience with these fighters, i thought to mention John Lineker since he's a very hard puncher but as far as i can tell he's not on the same level explosively, and i haven't seen any clear physical strength from him that stands out so i left him out,

and as far as DC and GSP goes, i think they are strong but that a lot of their manhandling comes from high skill.
I'm pretty sure I've heard lots of fighters saying GSP is the strongest guy they have competed against .

I think people are stating guys who aesthetically pleasing or are HWs. Guys like Fitch, Okami and Maia would be my response. Very unassuming but when they get a hold of you you are not getting away.
I can't believe I had to go like 7 pages in before someone mentioned Okami. Okami was THE fighter when it comes to surprising strength.

Not putting Ron Waterman on your list (go read what cro cop had to say about him)

Also, Matt Hughes with lb for lb strength.

Anybody remember when Volkmann went on a 5 fight win streak by decisioning everyone with his grappling? He seemed deceptively strong.

My thought was the guy could have "helped" him to avoid injury to the neck and to some extent he does... but mostly just by simply not lowering his ass to contrast the lift

But on other hand definitely does'nt "jump"

Rampage just ever been that good at lift peoples, he does'nt use too much upper body but involve a lot also the back, ass and legs

That and he was strong af

I'll do one more lap around ding-dong avenue with you.

If you are forced to take a surprise PEDS test, then admit to taking performance enhancing drugs subsequent to being tested, that is failing. We don't have to guess if he took PEDS, because he admitted it.

The point being, it was such a low dose of HGH that it didn't even show up on a test.

This is a technical and nuanced topic but you're framing of it is incorrect at face value. HGH is notoriously hard to catch even with advanced testing, and has a very small window.

Refusing the test would be failing. Taking it and passing it =/= failing

This is pretty basic stuff, it's like you yourself have never actually taken a test before

This isn't totally on-topic, but I'll never forget one of the boxing announcers mentioning that as hard as Tyson hit, guys still found it unbelievable how strong he was when they tried to move him in the clinch.

Oh and obligatory...

"Even though I knew Rampage was strong, until I fought him I had no clue just how strong one guy could be. I trained very hard on my strength and explosive power, but Rampage was on another in that department in our fight while I was always physically stronger when I wrestled Jon.

"Rampage has something he's been born with, that power and explosive strength. He's like an alligator, he can just explode and it's kinda freaky."

Sara McMann seems pretty damn strong.I met her once and remember she has a real physical presence for a girl.
