Lifting weights really helps punching power?

ouch my feelings lol

You prob have only played basketball at a rec level so you dont know what you are talking about.

Strength training is a staple in sprint training no sprinter trains with out strength training.

Basketball guys like Kobe, lebron Melo, etc all lift weights strength goes a long way on a basketball court my friend - try banging body's with shaq for 48 mins

Kobe beats you with skill, athleticism, length and quickness. Not his strength in the weight room. The weight room did not make Kobe, Lebron or Melo. These guys are just gifted. And they've worked on developing their skills.

And some sprinters (I've heard) drastically taper back that strength training during season. Probably because it has an effect of slowing them down in season.

have you ever lifted weights and tried to run at max speed multiple times??

Reason is because your central nervous system only has so much juice and when its runs out your done. More so to do with being overworked or tired then it has to do with the speed of the bar.

if you be really nice to me i will post a study pretty much proving that the force (strength) you generate into the ground directly effects how fast you run or jump.

All athletic qualities can be improved upon.

How much improvement? Now that's up to your genetic make up

o god...

I am not saying those guys are gifted with great talent...

What I am saying is that before Kobe beefed up he was riding that bench ( look it up) lebron and Melo both came into the league with NBA ready bodies ( strength work) again look it up. Weights are not THE reason but they are APART of the reason

sorry if I wasn't clear before

That's not why Kobe rode the bench, dude.

Kobe wasn't ready for the NBA, physically he was a skinny kid from Philly sure he lacked polish but want rookie doesn't ?

he flat out wasn't ready physically ( mentally he was already better then most) he just needed time to mature (get his body up to speed)

My point is strength training plays a roll ( not the main role of course) but one none the less

Dammit... and here I was thinking some other sport besides basketball was the indicator of my abilities as an athlete.

Can you elaborate on what you disagree with? I don't think I'm really understanding your view.

Football players train completely differently than track runners and basketball players, their bodes are composed in dissimilar ways for the reason of: they all do different "jobs" athletically. Comparing someone's running ability against another's when one's job is to run and the other's is to run and fend off a 300 pound man is silly. It's apples to oranges.

why can't people just say i was wrong instead of contently ignoring facts...

Why couldn't you in your previous appearances in the s&c? Hell, I bet you still can't. How about offering proof for once ? Something isn't a fact because you typed it.

This entire thread makes me feel sad.

And bad for a select portion of the population that vehemently defends bullshit science proven wrong over, and over and over in weightrooms and studies around the world. Keep on keeping on bros... Your inability to accept science is what keeps you from ever achieving your athletic potential.

who are you?

at any rate tough guy. if you read all my threads (like you seem to do), you would know that I always show proof - High speed preformance a new approach to assessment and prediction

thats the study I referred to on earlier today.... this wanna be tough guy over here coming to some dudes aid.... rather or not YOU accept my methods is up to you but I dont base my opinions on things I think, my thought patterns come from studies,
my own personal experiences and those who I have worked with in the past. it may not be what YOU want to hear but it has worked for a few decent people....

hate it or love it

Fixed. That was bugging the crap out of me.

Why are you guys arguing about whether or not weight training helps an athlete? Yes it does. And yes, sprinters AND basketball players (many other sports too I'm sure) stop weight training during the season and a little before. But they would be much worse off if they didn't weight train at all. What is so complicated about this process

Awwww shit B, awww shit....
