Where I wade here, the water is in the 80s and very comfortable during the summer months. We are currently planning a trip to the smoky mountains for later this week and I occasionally try to fish there and the water is always very cold.

I've never owned a pair of waders. If the water is good enough to stand in I might, but I grew up bank fishing. Water here rarely gets above 70 in the bigger rivers.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Cold water for the waders. I used to have some for trout fishing in the early spring when it was much too cold to go without.

Not proud of it, but I didn’t get skunked like the ten fisherman I talked to later after posting on Facebook. They were all in boats with motors and I was at a severe disadvantage dammit, so it is good that I was able to catch one. Expect more pics from tonight
 
I been off the water mostly the last few weeks. Its been hot & head of household duties has kept me busy, on top of a few family emergencies.

Getting ready for a Texas Gar trip next month as well!
 
When I use to fish with my uncle he used a “Carolina rig” I don’t what it is. we usually caught plenty of cappie, trout, catfish if we’re lucky and some other kind I forgot the name of. All that matters make sure its gutted and filleted season your dry or wet batter and baptize em in that peanut oil for 10 mins.
 
Went out yesterday. Caught one and it wasn’t worth dragging my kayak up and down a giant hill. I am hitting the river tonight. I have tried both my lakes and got two measly fish despite using what I believe to be the right lures in the right spots.

Carolina rig is usually a plastic worm or lizard dragged on the bottom. The line goes from the rod to a weight and then attached to the weight is a leader of line that leads to your bait.
 
Something funny happened regarding this thread. Yesterday, a poster from the warroom, tribaldrumz, took one of my pictures from this thread and posted it in the war room and he called me a racist, ugly bearded bass pro wannabe” I reported the post for doxxing me and told him to enjoy his yellow cards. He actually got banned, but later was unbanned and switched to double yellows. Fucking lol.
 
Hit the Ohio river and took my kayak out on the actual river instead of the back channel. I have always been afraid of the current and boats, but it wasn’t bad at all. Only caught one, but I am heading back out tomorrow morning to try again.

Shocking. Lol. Not really, he’s a notorious piece of shit. As are most of the War Room mods, which is why he and some of his cohorts are still allowed to break rule after rule with no consequences. Its a shame, this thread and a couple sports threads are the only reason I visit here anymore.
 
Took the kayak on the river for the first light bite. O was throwing top water and got nothing. Then I started seeing schooling bass and I would cast to them, and ended up catching 4 that way and lost one at the boat. Biggest was a little over 2.5 lbs. three caught on a sixth sense scramble and one on a megabass spinnerbait.

Well, he got banned and then unbanned and finally, double yellows. I have been in the warroom for 20 years. I have a few mods that protect me as well. In my 20 years, I got yellows twice that I can recall. The first was I did exactly what this clown did. I got a picture of a poster I hated and posted it in the warroom making fun of him. I didn’t realize that wasn’t allowed and many other posters don’t realize that as well. So when he did it, I laughed and laughed because I knew what was coming his way. Also, in that 20 years, I only reported two posters and it has been this last year-mack yancy for endlessly tagging me and saying I have said stuff which I never said in threads that I had never been in and then this incident.
 
Slayed some reds yesterday at Galveston jettys ,caught so many we threw some back. All caught on live shrimp at around 12 pm (surprised they were still biting with heat like it was). Probably fry up some fish later this week.

Nice pompano bonus. How are the black drum for eating? I’ve caught some smaller ones but never tried cleaning one.
