Let's be honest, Merab has good cardio, that's it.

A guy spamming TD attempts where you pop back up every time and expertly defend his grappling attempt is not domination. If this is domination, what would we call it if he actually fielded some real offense? Super-duper-domination?
He outstruck Yan 2 to 1.

Tell me more about how that's a meaningless statistic.

Maybe Yan didn't get to throw any...because Merab's gameplan was designed to nullify Yan's strengths? Even when they were standing the threat of the TD+ Merab's striking volume confounded Petr's striking game. There were plenty of moments for him to uncork on the feet, but he just couldn't make it happen tonight.

Hope you didn't lose much money on it.

nullification is not offense though... He won on the scorecards purely on volume of TDs, a TD by itself is worth nothing without effective GnP or advance of position backing it up.

He's a cardio machine, I'll give him that. But he needs to land real offense.

This guy is like Khabib without any offensive ability. He can spam a million takedown attempts and throw nothing strikes, but I didn't see much else tonight.

He won every round by a narrow margin, technically those takedowns are not supposed to count for anything on the score cards since Yan popped back up each time.

So kudos to his cardio ( is he on the McGregor FAST program?), can't say I'm impressed otherwise.
The takedowns definitely count because they gave Merab control time and also made Petr Yan tired. If your actions take away your opponent's cardio that scores under the unified rules.

He also landed a bunch of punches that made Yan's face swell and a bunch of calf kicks to the left leg that basically made Yan unable to fight orthodox.

Very clear 50-45, Merab dominated every round.

He also had the most TD attempts in UFC history. It's hardly surprising very little striking took place. So kudos to him on his cardio, but merely neutralizing someone without actually landing much real offense is not impressive otherwise.

I think you should reconsider your use of meaningless statistics before you sound off... Looking at striking ratio in a fight where Yan barely got to throw any?

Use your eyes dude. Yan was losing nearly every exchange. He was losing the kicking game, the punching exchanges and he was literally the one moving away and getting walked down. It’s not like he was piecing him up or doing much of anything. He got soundly beaten everywhere and took the most damage. “cArDiO OnLy”. That makes Yan a fucking deflated practice dummy only the entire fight. Yan is a treadmill I guess that just was stepped on by cardio.

I'm not disputing the decision, but let's be real. Other than being a cardio machine and a wrestler not much happened for Merab tonight.

The only reason people are springing to his defense is because they like to see the salty Petr Yan fans.

Very little striking?

Are you sure you watched the fight?

Op must despise Yan since he’s so insistent that Merab has NOTHING but cardio and he destroyed Yan

I am using my eyes. I saw a guy with endless cardio spamming ineffective TD attempts and nothing punches. I watched the other guy expertly defend most of that. Not much real offense was mounted.

If you think this guy is impressive, you must cum in your pants when you watch a Khabib fight. Cardio machine, vicious GnP, very good subs, nice jab, high pressure.

It's his biggest and most important attribute by far imho, but no to "that's it".

He's had 65 TD attempts in his last 2 fights, and one of them was a 3 rounder.

<36>

He definitely doesn't ONLY have cardio, but his cardio is what allows him to win while having pretty low TD accuracy and just making up for it with volume.

So Yan's eye was swollen shut from missed takedowns?
It doesn't take much force to swell up the eye socket. You just have to punch/strike the eye or around the orbital.

Merab exposed Yan in all facets on MMA in that fight

Yanablers like the OP and many others are just seeing what they want to see and instead of actually been honest with their boy, they are just lying to themselves hence the enabling towards Yan

Very embarassing at this point

Lol he dominated Yan 50-45. Are you stupid or just salty
