Let's be honest, Merab has good cardio, that's it.

Aside from Merab dickriders, there are many people on this board with the same reaction as me.

You always cry to the mods whenever someone has a different opinion than your own?

Because Yan is a typical fighter with a moronic rabid fanbase.

You’re way off here though.

If this was the Aldo fight I would be more inclined to agree. The Aldo fight was underwhelming and not very satisfying. This was 100% dominance everywhere and conclusive.

Coming into the fight I wanted Yan to win because I wanted to see Aldo get one last shot at glory and felt robbed of it. Rarely do I get emotionally invested in a fight or care about outcomes in such ways. But my WeC fandom and love for Aldo……..

I normally don’t care about fighters personalities and external shit. The only thing that I dislike is seeing fighters whine, cry, complain or act overly entitled. Yan has become really good at that. Still, part of me wanted to see Yan win because of the Aldo fight. Then Yan has another mental midget moment at the weigh-ins so I’m back to being 50/50.

Absolutely hilarious his tiny d energy from yesterday showed in this fight and he was completely out-classed everywhere and you could see his little whiny bully soul leaving his body as he knew he had zero chance.

Wasn’t just cardio. It was aggression, will, confidence, grit, offense, defense, leg kicks, strikes literally anywhere and everything else. He won the fight everywhere. The one area Yan was winning was calf kicks, then he ate some calf kicks that hurt him more and clammed up. Merab answered him everywhere and Yan drown.

Thats not true at all. He mixed up his attacks to make it hard for Yan to predict

49 take down attempts, god I hate watching these type of fighters. At least a guy like Khabib was dominant with his grappling, this was just annoying to watch.

Maybe there are. In any case, it doesn't look like there's too many of them in this thread. It's mostly people flaming you for sounding like a delusional idiot

Most takedown attempts in a single fight means you’re not keeping the fight on the ground. Not really an impressive record to have. Regardless though if you can’t keep a guy like Merab off of you, you aren’t winning a decision.

Lol he won every round clearly and out struck Yan 2 to 1.

I swear some of you guys have no clue what you are watching.

I mean one punch can give a fighter a swollen eye. Not really a great argument when Merab was busted up as well.

Works for him. His opponents cannot do much. Pride rules though should cause some damage and attempt to finish. I think such uneventful fights are darn near draws. Not suggesting Merab lost , he outworks his opponents . His opponents cannot hurt him so he wins. Not the most elegant but a wins a win. GSP had some snoozers too mainly ground control. Do need to be in incredible shape.

I can hardly recall any big strikes that landed cleanly from Merab. Mostly just garbage spammed kicks and punches not intended to do damage, just filler until his next TD attempts a few seconds later.

This guy is like Khabib without any offensive ability. He can spam a million takedown attempts and throw nothing strikes, but I didn't see much else tonight.

He won every round by a narrow margin, technically those takedowns are not supposed to count for anything on the score cards since Yan popped back up each time.

So kudos to his cardio ( is he on the McGregor FAST program?), can't say I'm impressed otherwise.

He out struck the best striker in the division....out landed Yan 2 to 1. Dvalishvili landed 202 of 401 total strikes compared with 87 of 155 by Yan. He did more damage, landed harder kicks, better clinch and better wrestling. Your take is weak and inaccurate.

It doesnt matter. All his mixed attacks made it difficult for Yan to mount any offense.

This is what I'm scratching my head about. It was fairly even except Yan was on the defensive the whole time. So a win for Merab, but how can anyone walk away thinking Yan got dominated ? Actual dominations like Gaethje vs Ferguson, Khabib vs. ... anybody, Gane vs. Black Beast, Holloway vs. T City / Kattar don't compare to this boring ish.

Merab wins an award for best cardio for a basic ass wrestler ever. Congrats, that will get him pretty far , but to call his victories dominating is silly.

You think it's his mixed striking attacks made it difficult for Yan to mount offense? What about the fkin TD attempts every 10 seconds LOL.

Mixing striking with the takedowns. Making the TD's and the strikes unpredictable to know which is coming and when. See Chael Vs Silva, noob.

That sounds too high .. are those strikes or sig strikes

Agreed but I understand the guy’s frustration. It isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing style to constantly be leaping in and grabbing the guy, failing to get the takedown and landing a couple so-so strikes during the chaos. He’s doing what he has to do so nothing against Merab but I don’t find it entertaining and was fast forwarding by the end.

I don't think so. If his striking was effective, he would have landed more takedowns out of the total attempts. The striking was just filler.

Bottom line is when a wrestler has cardio that good there's not much you can do but defend. Kudos to Merab for getting on the McGregor FAST program, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking he's some kind of striking phenom

I never said he was a striking phenom. You said that all he has is good cardio. That is where you are wrong. He is mixing his attacks in such a way as making it very difficult to fight him. Its a tactic. His cardio simply augments his tactic. Someone with just cardio and no skills wouldnt get anywhere.

I don't think it matters. It works for him right now. The division doesn't have enough grapplers to cause him trouble. Merab can get in trouble with submissions.
