Media Leon says he will NOT sign contract vs. Colby Covington

He didn't care about Leon until there was some benefit in fighting him?

<Cage33>

I don't even think Nate Diaz was ranked, so Leon's only top 10 win was 3 years before he fought for the title.

Colby beat #7, #3, #1, #5 and #6 and had 2 FOTY candidates with the champ, and wasn't given any immediate rematches, he fought to keep his spot after each.

Khamzat would have been next, but couldn't make weight and seems to be going to 185 now, so it's Colby, who’s been the consensus best guy after the champ for 4 years.

If he wasn't, Leon wouldn't be trying to duck him, and you'd be betting all your money on Leon when they fight, but you're not, and Leon is trying to "defend" against a guy Colby dominated, and already got 2 title shots himself and lost bady in both.
#3 Demian Maia was 39 at the time
#1 RDA was a good win
Robbie Lawler was only ranked #11 and was 37 years old when they fought
Those are 3 good wins, Colby was very deserving when he fought Usman the first time but how many title shots is he gonna milk off these same wins?

Then #5 Tyron Woodley was 38 years old at the time and he's been washed since losing to Usman.
#6 Jorge Masvidal was 37 years old and very overrated, does anyone think he was actually the sixth-best welterweight a year ago?

Obviously Colby is a good fighter and has some good wins, but he fights once a year and beats up on senior citizens.

The question Leon was asked was if Colby was the biggest opponent he could face in terms of PPVs. He said no, actually Masvidal if he beats Burns would be bigger. That's a pretty big "if." I do not think Masvidal is beating Burns. Nor do I particularly relish the thought of Mas getting a third title shot. But at least if Mas does beat Burns, he'll have beaten an actual top contender in the last 3 years.

Belal MuhamMAD, and he should be mad. Look at his "active" record.

What on earth does a guy have to do to get a title shot? This is not a popularity contest.

I'm sure he will. It's just a negotiation tactic more than likely. If he sticks to it an fights Shavkat insteae then that would be pretty cool. Let Colbt and Masvidal fight again.

I like Leon, an he needs to call someone out and not just complain about Colby.

Some suggestions:

he can call out wonder boy for “best striker”

call out Belal “for unfinished business”

I hate this by call out Masvidal “for both BMF and WW title on the line - champ vs BMF

call out Shavkat - someone’s streak has to be broken.

Invite Islam for champ champ fight

I hope Leon and team don’t stop at “no I won’t sign a Colby contract” and leave it there. At least give alternatives that the public will be excited for. That’s the angle I’d suggest.

Wouldn't Leon already hold the lineal BMF nonsense "belt"? Mas lost to Usman after the Diaz fight.

If the UFC just wants to sell ppvs, they'd ink Colby vs Khamzat.

There is no "lineal" in MMA and people really need to stop using it.

Its a boxing term that doesnt apply to MMA.

Why doesn't it apply to MMA?
The only titles that matter are the ufc and pride titles. In boxing there are multiple world titles you need to get to be considered undisputed. Mma morons consider gsp the "lineal" ww champion and that the division basically ends with him simply because he retired w the belt.

The term lineal has no place in mma as it is. Whoever is the champion right now,is the champion. That's it.

Yeah it's bullshit, but I was applying it to the "BMF" title which is also bullshit.

Masvidal was badder than Diaz that night, Usman was badder than him, and Leon proved he's a badder motherfucker than Usman in that order.

For rankings or selling a fight, I'd agree that it doesn't matter beyond being a marketing gimmick when you're uniting an interim title.

And Luque was 5. And Wonderboy, who has beaten Mas, was 5
And those are his best career wins, while Colby has a #7, #6, #5, #3 and #1. Like I asked in another thread, which fight has Belal won that could have been for an interim title if the champ was out?

If Colby fought Belal, who do you think would be the favorite when it's people putting their own money on it and not just saying who they like better? Whose odds would be better against Leon between Belal and Colby? Belal might not even be the favorite fighting down in the rankings against Shavkat.

You can not like Colby, but when it comes to what people actually believe and not just what they want, there aren't many people who think Belal is better than Colby.

It kinda is a popularity contest. Nobody gives a crap about Belal. Noone cares if he gets to fight for the title.

It is what it is.....

Fair enough, but I mean, even in boxing lineal titles are kind of silly and mostly just for fun.

Lineal titles restart when two top contenders face each other so it is a pretty moronic take though to think the WW lineage permanently dies out with GSP.

This talk started when Ngannou left. People think they are bein smart.

Leon won’t be cut. The UFC needs him, and since Paddy, Till and Molly the can are all garbage-he’s fairly safe from harm. Sure the lighter weights have British contenders…but they aren’t currently wearing the strap. Lest we forget the Bisping Hendo title defense which only occurred to placate the British fans and build up Bispings legacy as a champion (with a touch of home brew judging just in case). Stripping him would be cutting the nose to spite the face.

I see now. Even if he wins 10 more in a row and someone else refuses to fight, that someone else should get the title shot. You gotta love MMA fans.

Just imagine for a moment, if you were a fighter, fighting all the time and winning. And fans like you don't appreciate that fact so you get passed over. I wonder would you complain?

RIGHTFULLY SO.
Good on Leon. Someone’s gotta step up to that bald headed goof.

Fk Dana WHITE privilege.

Could Trump have had a say in all of this? Maybe he ordered Dana to give Colby the next title shot?
Speculation galore but I feel like Dana and Colby sharing a lot of the same values has a lot to do with this preferential treatment.

I think Leon is saying that for negotiating purposes....but the truth is colby DOES NOT and should not be fighting for a title ....isn't he like 2 and 2 in his last 4 fights ???
