Well youre seriously assuming what he negotiated. You may want to hold off waving the money flag until the details come out.
Unless he says publicly, and he seems like a private guy, details will likely never come out.

But I'm just looking at factors, and yes, building them into my assumptions:

  • UK audiences are important to UFC
  • UK press is NOT tamed by the UFC like MMA media is
  • Leon just put on the biggest event the UFC has ever had and the biggest gate the O2 has ever had
  • Leon's management team are among the best in the business (they represent Conor)
  • Leon has stood on his ground in the past and it worked for him when it usually does NOT work for fighters (going back to the job his management team is doing)
  • Leon seemed VERY confident in his denial of fighting Colby - he didn't seem scared of UFC pressure at all. He openly declared "they won't decide - I'm the champ and I'll decide who I fight". Usually Dana publicly embarrasses ppl for saying stuff that independent but he has been VERY respectful towards Leon

NOTHING about the above says "he will have to cave" to me. But, yes, absolutely, I am indeed making assumptions based on observable factors. That's all I can do in the absence of verified facts.

Muhammad’s win streak isn’t very good ….Leon was dominating him last time ….Leon vs Colby a much better matchup imo

Only reply needed...

The UFC also could have said Colby in England or Fighter X on a ABC card without PPV points. Or we offer you x fights at current rate and we strip if you dont agree after a year. I personally dont see Leon having nearly the leverage the UFC has; but ill wait till the numbers are released.

Not a chance lol. The UFC would've just told him he's fighting Colby or getting stripped. Leon isn't anywhere near big enough to call any shots, even as champ.
Not only a chance - a likelihood. You've got it backwards on this one, brother. Leon is managed by Paradigm and just put on London's most star studded UFC event ever and broke O2 gate records as well as UFC UK records.

That is the definition of a man in a position to call shots AND who has the management who can do that. You got this one backwards, brother.

Well they COULD have said that but I think it's naive to think they did without evidence. This isn't Twood or Charles Oliviera or someone.

This is the guy who just broke all the UK records and has one of the strongest management companies who have a great relationship with the UFC.

This is the guy who sat out and demanded his title shot for so long he became almost irrelevant. And then he got his damned title shot!

I think his track record is he knows what he's doing in terms of negotiating with the UFC, unlike MANY others. I have no reason to start doubting his business moves now.

Also, if Leon is bitter about the arrangement reached we'll certainly hear about it. And the UK press is not the lapdog that MMA media is. And paradigm CAN GET STORIES PRINTED.

So if Leon got a bum deal, we'll hear about it. If he got a great deal we likely won't hear a peep about it.

Colby should be careful of any knife or acid attacks before the fight. Or knives covered in acid

He got a TS after Usman got to have two rematches against guys who got immediate rematches and one who got an easy rebound fight plus Burns. It wasnt like the UFC was clamoring to have Leon fight for a title. Hell, if Khamzat made weight against Diaz, we probably never see Usman v Leon 2 or 3. I agree Leon does well in the UK but really isnt a draw anywhere else (ppv buys) and i dont see what you're seeing in terms of leverage. I wouldnt be surprised if he did get a pay bump, i certainly would be surprised if it was an exponential one.

Some bullshit matchmaking by UFC. Now top contenders Shavkat and Belal either kill each others hype or waste their time.

They are still going to be behind Masvidal or McGregor, if either wins his fight.

The UFC is a public company now; dont they have to release talent deals?

To whatever extent it's true that the UFC is targeting a London location for Edwards v. Covington, that just means they're trying to put pressure on Edwards to sign for the fight without giving him the big payoff. When we see the headline "UFC targets $7.5 million guaranteed payout to Leon Edwards for Covington fight," then there will be something to talk about.

I think he was sincere GIVEN the conditions.

Like if my boss were to tell me "next I want you to come clean out my garage" I'd have a SINCERE refusal, flat out. But if he then told me "ok, you don't want to, fine. But if you change your mind I'll pay you $30k for 2 days' work" then I'd accept EAGERLY.

Yes, my stance changed, but I did NOT cave. I didn't lose, I didn't lose face, I'm not regretful or embarrassed about my choice - I did what made sense for my pocketbook.

So I'm only saying his agreement is probably a huge win and windfall for him. If his detractors want to laugh about him doubling or tripling his regular pay, they should laugh away. But they're laughing at a man who's making winning decisions.

So I just don't see it as anything to laugh about when a man negotiates his way into some more cash. But, hey, I'm not a hater, lol. I get that some others will laugh. While they make their normal salary or pay and he makes double or triple his. It takes all kinds.

But you do lose, if you sell out your principles. That's why it depends on why he refused. Like @JudoThrowFiasco said, he presented it as an integrity matter, which if it were true, he'd still be losing his integrity, even if he gains a bunch of money. But given he also wanted to fight Masvidal, it was probably not really about a certain principle, but more a disliking possibly for Colby and a disliking for not being able to call the shots himself.

You, I assume, don't really have a principled stance on cleaning garages, so it's a little different, as far as the comparison goes. But maybe you do, I don't know.

hahaha Leon the Peon being told what to do by Daddy Dana

Bout time Colby gets his shot. Dude earned it and then done.

Man i really hope this fight comes to fruition asap I could see Colby winning most of the fight then getting KTFO
