How could Royce be so powerful then, but so puny just two years later when he faced Hughes?
To answer my own question perhaps the 7 year age gap made a big difference.

Same reason he was so much stronger in the Yoshida and Saku rematches... (I still think it's bullshit Saku still a win on his record, terrible decision, AND Popped HARD, levels were through the roof.
 
Not a monstrous size discrepancy, but still an appreciable one. Wiuff cut insane amounts of weight to make LHW, and doing it 3 times in about a month (for the old school Bellator Björn-a-tourney) caught up with him in the final versus a relatively skinny Attila Vegh:



P.S. Looked both dudes' records up to see if they are still active, Attila hasn't fought since 2019 but one of his last fights was Travis Fulton - there's a name I haven't heard in a while, not since he lost to Arlovski in EliteXC 2.0, I thought he would still be adding names to his 300+ fight record. Looked him (Fulton) up and wish I hadn't.
