Law enforcement is most obese profession - study

Officer physical fitness is really something that needs to be addressed. My agency recently started a pretty in depth fitness review and program. We are generally a very fit group. I'd say we have maybe 15-20 guys and gals who are overweight. We have way more who are absolute gym rats and physical fitness freaks.

And yes, for the most part, officers who are not in good physical shape tend to use force more often than those who are in shape.

I like your posts, you always seem quite honest. Good on you.

I also liked your stance on DUI, while another officer was claiming it was too much paperwork, and made is sound like LEOs decide not to charge based on personal quirks. DUI should be charged 100% of the time, it kills people.

The flip side is Jack by Hand Jr, I assume thats a troll account, if it isn't, people can understand some hatred for law enforcement. Like every job, there are meatheads amongst them, too bad.

I never wrote shooting unarmed people. what I do know is that you have never been in a dangerous situation.you would never protect this country or put your self in harms way by becoming a cop, or joining the Military. Because your pussified coddled liberal upbringing means you would rather die without a fight because you secretly are scared to death of confrontation.

you know you sound a lot like my old sociology prof. clueless about the reality of this world.

Okay there smart guy, while were at it should we settle this like real men and meet in the Detroit city?

There's a cop who works out at my gym and does biceps 3x a week.

No leg day needed when you sit in a car and shoot people all day.

Lol. They don't need legs when they don't run. Their bullets are fast..no point in chasing

Yooo..man, your in costa mesa..whats the average twep there 70degrees..I work in Palm springs area alot (construction) and my little ice pack thingy works perfect in 100+ degree weather..also why would you let it sit in your trunk...just put it in the cab with you ..I know you got a/c right?..and why would you let it sit for 12 hours? Say you take your lunch mid shift thats around six hours..not bashing man but you are making Ali of bad reasons fir eating poorly...something I do is pack the ingredients separate in Tupperware and they stay fresh way longer.

I don't work in Costa Mesa. LE is an unpredictable job. Sometimes I don't even get a piss break in my 12 hours shift let alone a lunch break

You can always test my theory. Put a sandwich or left over dinner in a cooler bag, stuff it in the car trunk for 10-12 hours in the summer. Let's see if it's still edible

Done it plenty of times and it works, you just need to fill it up, dont buy too big a bag or fill it with a cold pack or really cold water.

Seriously dude, i studied enviromental sciences i used to stay for days in the sonoran desert, you really wont BS anyone with the "cant eat properly without a fridge at work", people didnt had fridges at work 100 years ago either.

TBF... There are plenty of cops that are on the juice to the point where they would absolutely bomb a BMI test.

LoL. Try eating rotten sandwiches that have been sitting in the hot ass trunk of car in the middle of a summer

lol. So cops are not only fat, you're saying they are much dumber than the average construction worker too? :icon_sad:

These guys are physically fit when they come out of the academy and get tested, but the police unions ensure that they keep their jobs even when they're fat, out of shape, incompetent, corrupt, use excessive force, etc. Cops sometimes get fired, but it's usually after the most egregious cases that get widespread media attention, especially when caught on camera. That's just the way it is. Once you're in, you're in. Even if something goes wrong, you're probably still going to keep your job and/or get a pension.

Sounds like any other union job. Teachers come to mind. Sad how unions protect incompetence

A study on the prevalence of obesity by occupation found nearly half the cops, firefighters and security guards in the United States are obese. Economists, scientists and psychologists scored the lowest rates of obesity.

...Law enforcement personnel scored 40.7 percent on the American Journal of Preventive Medicine

To be fair they also didn't have Mcdonalds

I am fat.

Construction workers? I always see those guys have those big ass coolers filled with ice hanging in the back of their pick up truck.

I can understand long shifts, stress, yada being huge factors but still, the MOST obese profession is surprising.

People also dump their garbage out on the street 100 years ago. What's your point?

Yeah, coolers. Marvelous invention. They come in many shapes and sizes to suit one's particular needs. I ate a self-prepared lunch everyday when doing construction. Never had a fridge on the job site. I'd even accompany my sandwich with a cold (enough) drink. Far more economical to do it this way too.

Coma means they are separate. Means all of the aforementioned are obese, cops being the highest. Read the whole article and understand it before you try to respond with a one liner.

Actually the actual study groups them together under "Protective service" so that makes more sense, security guards are definitely lardasses

From my 6 years experience as a street cop, the cops who are accused of excessive use of force tend to be males, younger, fitter, and lack of experience on how to diffuse a tense encounter. Furthermore, a lot of young cops have something to prove to the vets.

Cops who have been on the department for a while tend to be out of shape/fat, but they have the experience on how to diffuse a tense situation. They have nothing to prove because they already proven themselves for the last 10-20 years. They also don't want to jeopardize their pension if they get fired for excessive use of force.

all those points make sense. the only argument I can think against it would be that usually racism should easier to find in older cops, but of course racism isnt the cause of most cases of use of excessive force.

I've trained with a lot of cops and while some were really nice guys, others were asshole meatheads.

And your problem with my posts are what exactly? sir, we are all entitled to our opinions. you and I have I'm assuming vastly different upbringings'. like I'm sure you've probably never even fired a bb gun, and the thought of hunting appalls you.

while the thought of sitting in Starbucks with a bunch of hippies with stretched out hoop ears and nose piercings talking about how awesome Obama is enough to make me consider seppuku.

but its cool dude, were just different. besides the fact that I'm better than you shouldn't deter us from having a civil discourse.

based on your completely erroneous assumptions and your constant use of personal attacks to answer any kind of counterargument done to your stupid posting, as well as your constant need to prove your manliness, I would say you are better than almost no one here.
