Spend enough time around guns though, and one can fairly accurately guess what weapon was firing and in what manner. The rate of fire was too consistent to be a bump stock or a crank .

There's also crank fire and other devices for similar effect. Point is, without knowing what he was actually using that's a lot of assumptions.

If you listen to the closest video of the shooting the rate of fire changes a lot. Slows right down. I don't know of any regular machine gun that does that.

I still can hardly distinguish there only being one shooter from most video clips. Sounds like multiple positions and multiple different rifles.

If it was actually 9 seconds of consecutive fire, then it has to be belt feed or drum. (I would assume) Military AR's top out at 32 rounds (iirc) and normally you usually only put 30 rounds in it (so as to not cause spring tensions issues for bad feeds / weapon malfunction) AK's I believe top out at the same or slightly more, but still. Most experienced guys could empty a magazine of 30 rounds on semi-auto in less then 9 seconds easy, I know this from experience.

There were multiple guns , probably not all were full auto. They also jam a lot , especially when they get hit. So rather than drop the magazine and clear a stove piped shell or a jammed feed, it’d be easier to just grab the next weapon.

Also, not every”crack” you hear is a shot. There’s echos from the tall buildings, and also sounds of bullets hitting nearby objects

By the time the "armed response" gets there it's already too late. A few citizens with the weapons and training to handle the situation is EXACTLY what is needed in these kinds of cases. The problem is that in mass shootings like this the shooters always get a long time to just walk around and pop off rounds with nothing flying back in their direction.

You want people on the ground to fire back at him? You want them firing at a target they can't even see, hundreds of meters of away, with small arms...at a crowded hotel made completely of glass?

I CCW everywhere I go, and I am as pro-second as it gets, but this is a textbook example of a situation that should have been handled by law enforcement. Braining Lebron as he climbs through your window at night to steal your TV, or being the hero of Waffle House when you drop Jose of the West-Bridge Cholo gang as he tries to hold the place up is great. Trying to take on an entrenched shooter in a crowded location in a confusing situation like that is only going to make things worse. If I were there, even with my gun on my hip, I would have been running for cover and shielding my gf.
