Kron Gracie's brilliant usage of side scissor guard

Kron did nothing brilliant in that fight lol.

There's nothing I hate more than watching a Gracie fight in the modern era. Putrid to watch.

I like your post and enjoy technical grappling breakdowns, but all I got out of this is "Holy shit, Rogan has really slipped when it comes to his knowledge and commentating abilities."
To be fair, so would mine if I was worth $300 million.
I think it's just because they're trying to cater to a certain demographic

Much as technical breakdowns would be nice, the average fan would get turned off by it.

The layman is most of the audience

I meant that I like OP's post and the breakdown it came with, but you got me thinking and they should just use Eddie Bravo (or someone who is knowledgeable about grappling and good on the mic, eddie is just an example) like they use Din Thomas when there's an interesting position on the ground.

damn kron is becoming a cm punk style laughing stock, he should have been 1 and done

Ha, I’d watch even more MMA and combat sports since I wouldn’t have to do shit to earn a living anymore! Now where would I get that kind of money..

How is such a high level grappler so passive on the ground
This is what the commentators got stuck on and didn’t think Kron would get anything going for him. Then to everyones surprise he attacked with a pretty good arm bar attempt and was working for a triangle or back take. I wonder what people would say if he got the finish..

I think Kron’s game is out dated and he’s not cut out to be a MMA fighter. He’s tough and has great BJJ, but that’s not enough anymore. Maybe 20 years ago.

Bryce got the finish. Well done. Korean superboy next?

Why pull guard when your opponent wrestles?

If his bjj is that good regaining guard should be assumed so why not try for top position.

I understand pulling guard if they only want to strike but this wasn't that.

Fantastic videos, finally got around to watching them. The best thing about the side scissor guard for MMA, IMO, is you can make your opponent carry your weight (so they can't posture up) without using your arms, something you can't really do with the closed guard.

Osss.

Gonna dust off the gracie barra gi and practice this on my living room floor for a bit.

I still don't understand why Kron was scared to wrestle with Bryce. Bryce isn't some super wrestler. Kron should have worked more in the clinch with him. He should have went for a single leg or body lock trip. Even if it didn't work and Bryce took him down, he'd still end up where he wanted to be.

Krons biggest problem is that he has absolutely no tactics or strategy. BJJ guys like him should pressure wrestle early to get their opponents tired and they should swing for the fences with punches and kicks because they don't have to worry about being taken down.

He did none of this and fought like an idiot. It's hard to understand because he could have done a lot better than he did last night regardless of the result. Piss poor approach.

Kron like most pure BJJ guys has poor takedowns. It doesn't even look like he trains much wrestling as he puts zero effort into takedowns and instead prefers to pull guard to bring the fight to the ground.

Bryce is far from a world class wrestler but he - and practically anyone in MMA today - has enough wrestling to not get taken down by someone like Kron Gracie.

It really is a brilliant position that is extremely underutilized. I started using it after I saw Kron do it to Kawajiri and it's extremely high percentage for me. I have tapped a black belt with the same setup Kron used.

It can't be overstated how powerful the threat to take the back is from that position.

Kron looked TINY compared to Bryce. Even the broadcast booth mentioned it. He is grossly undersized for the modern weight division.

He looked like a 36 year old who fought once in the last 5 years, fighting a top 15 opponent.

Book exhibition level fights, get exhibition results.

It slipped before the $300 million because he's an Alpha Brain riddled midget who's stoned as hell during commentary.

I think a lot of things factored into this, probably most notably his lack of experience in high-level mma. He looked good for a little bit when he tried to set up the armbar tho. He should never have entered mma; at least as late as he did.

True, he was already slipping during the Conor era. I think he stopped actually giving a shit about the sport when the love of his life rond rousey was brutally KO'd in front of him.

Once in a lifetime athlete!
