Kron Gracie's brilliant usage of side scissor guard

True, he was already slipping during the Conor era. I think he stopped actually giving a shit about the sport when the love of his life rond rousey was brutally KO'd in front of him.

Once in a lifetime athlete!

Cain Velasquez better watch his back. It might be the right day. One of these days.

If Kron wants to keep going in MMA he needs to do what Demian Maia did back in his days : learn enough offensive wrestling and striking to get the fight where he needs.

But he doesn't seem very bright.

Yes, but the problem being that Kron is 36 and he should have done this years ago. He is unlikely to learn much wrestling or otherwise significantly evolve his MMA game at this point.

It really is a brilliant position that is extremely underutilized. I started using it after I saw Kron do it to Kawajiri and it's extremely high percentage for me. I have tapped a black belt with the same setup Kron used.

It can't be overstated how powerful the threat to take the back is from that position.
My entire guard game is basically Trumpet Dan's breakdown of Roger Gracie, so I'm always in this position, but I don't have a lot of alternatives to taking the back. This gives me a few sweet subs when they're being really stubborn and I can't get off the ground.

I remember when Trumpetdan was trying to pretend like his training partner was some elite up and comer. This was the guy. I wonder what ever came of him?

Please don’t pull guard on me

There's something about a guy repeatedly leaping up to wrap his legs around my waist, with the goal of the two of us being face-to-face in near embrace on the ground that's just...

Gay.
