Russia is not a major power in any way, other than having a large- if fairly low-skill- military. Their living standard is poor and in terms of economy, the EU is 10x larger. Spain alone has approximately the same GDP.

Russia is struggling enough with Ukraine, they have zero shot against the West.

Poland alone would pose a challenge for Russia. These guys did not fuck around and have been modernizing and investing in their military a lot since 2014 to the point where they are now considered one if not the most powerful military force in Europe.

They are larger and are far better trained and equipped than the Ukrainian army.
