Hate to break it to you, but Putin is actually a moderate in Russia. All the alternatives I know of who actually have a chance in hell of getting into power are far more hardline than he his. Put it this way, this guy is one of the 2 or 3 men who will likely take Putin's place after he retires. Yeah.

I see things differently. Like it or not, the US needs to have diplomatic relations of some sort with Russia regardless of how evil or fucked up you think they are. We don't have to be friendly with them, but we need to understand them and recognize what their interests are to avoid blundering into one shit show after another. If we break off all relations with them, one of us is going to do something that the other really doesn't like, and if there's no one on the other side you can call to say "yo, WTF are you doing? Cut that shit out!" then shit can get out of hand real fast. That's a danger level that I don't want to live under.
