Lets all be honest about one thing. No one actually honestly cares that Mo lost the decision. He's pretty much a poor man's Askren at this point. He wrestles out of fear.
The judges were real consistent in their criteria. The yamauchi fight on thr undercard, I fully expected him to lose after being taken down and not trying to get back up (instead attacking from his back).People have gotten too accustomed to scoring a takedown more than a punch...
"Control" only means something if something is able to be done with it... We don't reward the boxer for running circles around the opponent if he NEVER throws a punch while doing it. Infact, we likely penalize him for avoiding combat, no?. Lets call a spade a spade...
Chandler and Mo were a real wake-up call to MMA, I hope.
I rewatched the fight. Based on how most fights are scored, Mo wins that fight. But the way I'd like to see fights judged and the way I believe fights should be judged, Rampage won that fight. King Mo took round 1, Rampage took 2 and 3 and if they got rid of this round-by-round scoring bullshit, Rampage absolutely won that fight.
This is something I can definitely agree with. I really thought they were going to give it to Mo based on the weight judges usually put on takedowns regardless of damage done, attempts blocked, etc...
As someone said earlier, the judges were consistent with this for most fights, and I really appreciated it.
For reference: you have absolutely not accrued one second of time spent in top position until after you have passed the guard. Not before. Forward pressure from top guard is basically asking to get armbarred. The whole reason it's called top control is because, SURPRISE: from mount, side control, etc., you have the ability to control their whole body by distributing your weight. But, you cannot establish top control without first passing guard because, from guard, it is really only possible to pressure via distributing your weight over their hips (aka PASSING GUARD).
Those inane UFC "time spent in top position" counters, when really the guy has spent NO time in top position, have all fooled you.
Crap judges-- that award 10-9s to whoever was in top guard for 2 minutes because they don't know shit about grappling-- do not invalidate truth.
Rampage won, he came to fight, Mo came to not lose.
When I was a kid, if king mo would moved his mouth down and brushed it against Rampage's nipple, it would've been called 2nd base.
When I was a kid we drank and chased girls. We didn't spend our time worrying about what it would be called if a man put his mouth on another man's nipple.
