"Kill All The Wolves" and invasive species?

Wolves do affect them some but you are overstating this. There are multiple things affecting the elk populations.

Humans are the Elks natural predator now. It's a shame they were wiped back in the day, but you can't introduce more predators to balanced system.

The elk are already changing behaviors, physical changes in response to the wolves. But what it comes down to is they are not the massive surplus killing (what its called when a predator kills more than it can eat) machines that they are made out to be.

Also the system was not balanced, ungulates were overgrazing and there's plenty of evidence that the ecosystems after the wolves came back have gotten significantly healthier.

The amount of time it will take to rebound with wolves twill multiplying is and will further affect the states economies.

The wolves aren't multiplying at record numbers. They are at lower numbers in some areas Than They have been in a long time. Also wolves generate millions in ecotourism with wolves being the number one reason they go to parks.

The state government and local businesses should have recognized a long time ago that their shitty business plan would make them lots up front but bite them on the ass after they handed out too many tags to people from anywhere.

Trying to fix this problem by monopolizing elk via stomping it's natural predators out of existence so everyone can restart the cash grab made off out-of-towner's on safari is a low thing to do. I don't have any sympathy for these people.

Those guys are dumb, but so is the op for equating wolves with boar. Boar are truly invasive.

speaking of invasive, we got them snakehead nasties around me. horror show.

1000 wolves known in Idaho are at the very least killing 16k elk a year. These wolves werent around for many years. They were re introduced.

The states didn't want them. Washington and Montana especially.

If you think wolves should be around despite the KNOWN economic impact, then that is fine with me, however I disagree 1000%. I'm beating a dead horse, so I will exit the conversation.

There is a pretty big feud going on in Finland since some wolves have attacked people on the countryside, but the people in cities are mostly against killing them.
It depends on the point of view, like if your kids get attacked by a wolf on their way to school youd probably want to kill wolves too

I've always thought we should just kill all the alligators in Florida. Every year they eat a child; nothing is worth that horror. If I lived there I'd just go around killing gators every spare moment I had.

Lmao this is not about overpopulation. So far, the only half feasible argument in here is the declining elk population costing states a few million dollars. That argument is moot when there is a commodity that would make many times the money they're losing, and they won't even think about adopting it.

Yeah proposing marijuana laws is the end all be all to everyones problems. It is about over population. The wolves haven't been around for over 100 years in most place and you're still doubting the impact they're having on the prey species?

We have the most impact on this planet. We should just kill ourselves off, right?

The way I see it, humans fucked up in the first place by hunting and killing off the wolves in that area. Now it's biting them in the arse and hitting them where they feel it most , the pocket

They might lose millions of dollars in lost hunting revenue but that is there own fault, fuck with the environment and bad shit usually happens

So blaming the wolves is a bit ridiculous

Fish & Game department estimates Idaho has 685 wolves and 103,000 elk.
Argument of too many wolves seems weak. If they are attacking livestock, well, then get some dogs. You know, that is what dogs are for, working dogs, you use them for actual work not rolling over for fake bacon or photo bombing facebook.

In the 1990s Idahoans were saying the same things about mountain lions, lions are going to kill all our livestock, eat all the deer, elk in the state, kill dozens of backcountry hiker, eat our children. Estimates now put approximately 2000 mountain lions in Idaho and all that forthcoming doom hasn't happened.

I'm not shifting the blame from people. We've definitly fucked up the ecosystem as far as wolves and plenty of other species go. But in my opinion if we don't try to keep things the way they are, other animal species are going to be affected in the long run. Its not like anyones advocating wiping the wolves completely out.

We have the most impact on this planet. We should just kill ourselves off, right?

That's the most valid point I've heard yet.

I think it is crazy how casually people swim in lakes and rivers in Florida among gators.

Fair enough dude, I think we will just have to agree to disagree

Otherwise, I could see this going in circles

River Monsters has changed my whole perspective on rivers and such

If I lived in Florida, there is no way in hell I would end up in any water except a pool. Alligators aren't notoriously angry like a Crocodile is though.
