Humans are the Elks natural predator now. It's a shame they were wiped back in the day, but you can't introduce more predators to balanced system.Wolves do affect them some but you are overstating this. There are multiple things affecting the elk populations.

The elk are already changing behaviors, physical changes in response to the wolves. But what it comes down to is they are not the massive surplus killing (what its called when a predator kills more than it can eat) machines that they are made out to be.
Also the system was not balanced, ungulates were overgrazing and there's plenty of evidence that the ecosystems after the wolves came back have gotten significantly healthier.
The amount of time it will take to rebound with wolves twill multiplying is and will further affect the states economies.

The wolves aren't multiplying at record numbers. They are at lower numbers in some areas Than They have been in a long time. Also wolves generate millions in ecotourism with wolves being the number one reason they go to parks.
The state government and local businesses should have recognized a long time ago that their shitty business plan would make them lots up front but bite them on the ass after they handed out too many tags to people from anywhere.
Trying to fix this problem by monopolizing elk via stomping it's natural predators out of existence so everyone can restart the cash grab made off out-of-towner's on safari is a low thing to do. I don't have any sympathy for these people.
Lmao this is not about overpopulation. So far, the only half feasible argument in here is the declining elk population costing states a few million dollars. That argument is moot when there is a commodity that would make many times the money they're losing, and they won't even think about adopting it.
Yeah proposing marijuana laws is the end all be all to everyones problems. It is about over population. The wolves haven't been around for over 100 years in most place and you're still doubting the impact they're having on the prey species?

The way I see it, humans fucked up in the first place by hunting and killing off the wolves in that area. Now it's biting them in the arse and hitting them where they feel it most , the pocket
They might lose millions of dollars in lost hunting revenue but that is there own fault, fuck with the environment and bad shit usually happens
So blaming the wolves is a bit ridiculous
We have the most impact on this planet. We should just kill ourselves off, right?
I've always thought we should just kill all the alligators in Florida. Every year they eat a child; nothing is worth that horror. If I lived there I'd just go around killing gators every spare moment I had.
I'm not shifting the blame from people. We've definitly fucked up the ecosystem as far as wolves and plenty of other species go.But in my opinion if we don't try to keep things the way they are, other animal species are going to be affected in the long run. Its not like anyones advocating wiping the wolves completely out.
That's the most valid point I've heard yet.
I think it is crazy how casually people swim in lakes and rivers in Florida among gators.
