"Kill All The Wolves" and invasive species?

The elk are already changing behaviors, physical changes in response to the wolves. But what it comes down to is they are not the massive surplus killing (what its called when a predator kills more than it can eat) machines that they are made out to be.

Also the system was not balanced, ungulates were overgrazing and there's plenty of evidence that the ecosystems after the wolves came back have gotten significantly healthier.

Loss of predators has been shown to be a huge influence on the loss of Salmon in the PNW. Gabe have you seen the "Land of the lost Wolves"? I'm curious of your opinion on it.

I'm planning on trying to to finally spot some of the rare Wolves on Prince of Wales Island this summer, in SE AK. That population has been getting decimated for years, and will probably end up getting the hunting season for them shut down, due to overhunting.

1000 wolves known in Idaho are at the very least killing 16k elk a year. These wolves werent around for many years. They were re introduced.

The states didn't want them. Washington and Montana especially.

If you think wolves should be around despite the KNOWN economic impact, then that is fine with me, however I disagree 1000%. I'm beating a dead horse, so I will exit the conversation.

Where are you getting your numbers for wolf population and amounts of elk taken by wolves? Wolves belong there and will make the ecosystems healthier. If it means the elk are harder to hunt for people so be it

@Sverre-I have not seen that doc yet. I will try and catch it at some point.

Invasive species are non indigenous species. Humans naturally migrated everywhere technically. There's a difference between an animal venturing in to new territory and placing boars and cats in places that the ecosystem evolved without them. If humans considered themselves invasive, then 99.999% of every species on Earth is an invasive species and the word loses all meaning.

I wouldn't call building boats "natural."

I think you will enjoy it. My goal this summer is too track down and get some pictures of the Alexander Archipelago wolf, on Prince of Wales Island in SE AK

Someone killed Romeo in Juneau. :icon_sad:

He was a playful lone male who would run around with domestic dogs at Mendenhall Glacier.

Yeah that's why I need to get some pics and see them up in the Mountains, before the hunters wipe them out. I read that the Prince of wales Wolves are being reduced by 40% every year.
