I get the comparison. The biggest guy in the weight class fighting one of the smallest, going to war and Izzy/Chimaev come out on top in a banger that they should have easily won on paper. I think they're both better than they showed in both respective performances

Yepp, definitely had 2nd n 3rd rounds for Burns. He also outlanded Khamzat in those rounds too.

Judges scoring was probably affected by the Khamzat hype.

Buuuut Khamzat is a promotional darling, he gets an auto 10-8 if he looks semi active in a round.

Yeah, MMA judging is beyond bullshit these days.
3 fights last night had very questionable decisions.
Because you disagreeed with them... doesn't mean you were eight. There is one out of like 20 mma media that scored the fight for Burns.... maybe you're just wrong?

Burns beat the crap outta him in the 2nd but he let Khamzat come out strong and dictate the fight in round 3. Burns looked better towards the end of the round but he let Khamzat control most of the round.

The decision was good.

He almost got finished in round 3 and lost the first half of that round

I can't see any logical argument for him winning the 3rd. While he did land slightly more, he was backed up almost the entire round, Chimaev had him severely hurt against the cage and nearly finished with a brutal combination and towards the end kicked him to the ground and ended the round landing huge punches on him against the cage. Look at his body language at the end of the third, even Burns knew he didn't win

3 was a tossup but Khamzat came forward more and looked fresher. I was pulling for Burns but didn't really have a problem with that decision - I think Khamzat did enough to steal it at the end.

3rd round could have gone either way. Burns seemed to be the fresher man towards the end though.

He was throwing bombs that barely missed an exhausted Khamzat.

I think Burns definitely won round 2, and I saw that he landed the harder shots in round 3 and more shots overall. Chimaev did have forward pressure, but that doesn't win fights when you're walking forward and getting caught with hooks. Gilbert landed the same overhand right about 3 or 4 times straight in round 3, and those were the cleanest and most effective strikes of the round. I scored it 29/28 Gilbert.

I thought so too but the third was really close and it could have been scored either way. Burns was gassed, trying to land that one big shot and never got it. Fun fight either way

Because you disagreeed with them... doesn't mean you were eight. There is one out of like 20 mma media that scored the fight for Burns.... maybe you're just wrong?
Ahh Chinarice the ever contrarian.
You disagree with everyone on this forum, doesn’t make you right. Maybe your just wrong?

Not a bad comparison at all. And rest assured that Chimaev will be back even better. It's hilarious how some nooblets around here are trying to make it seem like a small deal that he just beat the #2 welterweight in the world in his 11th fight.

Absolutely not the third round. Khamzat had him right where he wanted there after losing the 2nd, and when Burns realized the time was ticking he tried to land bombs.
The problem is that most of them missed. It says a lot that all three judges had Khamzat winning the third, too little too late for Gilbert. But he has all my respect for the great fight.

Curious how you give it to Burns in the third, it looked like Burns was on the brink of getting finished in that round
