3 was a tossup but Khamzat came forward more and looked fresher. I was pulling for Burns but didn't really have a problem with that decision - I think Khamzat did enough to steal it at the end.

Coming forward or octogon control is part of thr old judging.

The new judging is that damage trumps all and Burns landed more and landed more damaging shots in the third.

I think he lost because he looked wobbly early in the rd. Idk if it was a cardio thing or what but it wasn't because of anything Chimaev did in rd 3 so it should not be scored imo. Burns landed 5 more strikes in rd 3 according to ufcstats and also landed the bigger shots.

I rewatched the fight and the third was pretty close, it was not clear and cut either way, but you can't be mad that Khamzat won the fight.

This is secretly a Dan Hooker hate thread:(

Even Burns knew he lost before the decision was called.

That remains to be seen...But my point was that he was avoiding the ground game with Burns, he won't do so with Usman if he realizes he's able to take him down at will.

Even when he did engage with Burns he had to use a lot of effort and couldn't maintain position, he's not out grappling Usman.

It was close but I gave Chimaev the last round. The beginning it looked like he was going to get finished. Burns kept throwing hooks but if you watch it back he was hitting his guard but the crowd was still reacting.

That’s a decent comparison but I’d argue more like McGregor-Mendes with Burns being Chad and Khamzat being Conor (if that makes sense). The first fight where the biggest hype train gets tested, faces serious adversity and loses his invincibility aura, yet wins.
Yes that's a good comparison too, but since Conor has as many losses as wins since that Mendes fight I don't think that's something Khamzat will want to emulate.

Even when he did engage with Burns he had to use a lot of effort and couldn't maintain position, he's not out grappling Usman.

He could've taken down Burns at will if he wanted to... He got rocked in the second round and managed to take Burns down immediately with minimal effort before the bell rang. He just didn't want to fight on the ground with him, he said so himself after the fight. He respected Burns's BJJ too much.

It is a proven MMA fact that having a shaved head increases your MMA attributes. I won't go into detail, but it's known. Just look at the masterclass Alex Volk put on last night. Thug Rose anyone? GSP? Usman? Jon Jones? Fedor? Cormier? I rest my case.

Can someone confirm if this was Khazmat's first fight without a shaved head? I don't see anyone talking about this. I think that is why the fight was much closer than it needed to be. Colby is in for a world of trouble if Khazmat comes at him with the shaved head.

A shaved head increases your speed, chin (less matter on the scalp contributing to less pressure on the brain when hit with a clean shot), etc.

I get the comparison. The biggest guy in the weight class fighting one of the smallest, going to war and Izzy/Chimaev come out on top in a banger that they should have easily won on paper. I think they're both better than they showed in both respective performances

Izzy is not the biggest..
Not even close
