Colby's wrestling is good but overrated. He got taken down multiple times by LW RDA and was badly outwrestled by Usman (1/11, officially 0/11 on TD attempts).

He won't be able to wet blanket somebody like Chimaev who is far bigger and stronger than most of Colby's opponents.

Actually no, he did not get "badly outwrestled" by Usman. They both arguably scored 1 takedown and Colby had more control time. Colby has 72% takedown defense, (Compared to Burn's 47%) which would make him among the best defensive wrestlers Khazmat will face. However, people act like he will be completely helpless in grappling exchanges.

And it is doubtful that Colby would attempt to "wet blanket" Khazmat. What brought you to conclude that this would be his gameplan?

Not really, Burns is pretty unique at WW, there aren't many guys like him that have huge punching power and very dangerous submission games. Styles make fights and since not many other fighters have a style like Burns at WW I don't think it tells us much how Khamzat does against other fighters that aren't similar to Burns.

His inactivity in round 3, his comments about just wanting to win a title and retire, and the fact that he already nearly quit MMA, plus the hellish weightcut to 170 for him--he will never be a champ at 170 while Usman is there. And I don't think he's anywhere near to having the qualities to beat Adesanya either. He ended up being more like Sean O'Malley than I ever believed, but I'm happy I wasn't on the hype train.

He lived in a gym with nothing to become a fighter. I think Burns is just too skilled too early yet still won. Let's see what happens in the next two years.

Well, since Burns did turn this into a slober-knocker of a war, I think Kham needs another top contender first.

Go ahead and let Leon finally get his TS while UFC convinces Colby to step up.

Colby is another stiff test with great cardio and is gonna be damn near impossible to get TDs on.

When the dust settles from Usman/ Edwards and Kham/Colby, we can revisit the matchup.

His interview was weird. I think it’s obvious his confidence isn’t as high. Why would it be? He finally had himself a tough fight and barely won. I hope he sits back and realizes that his skill level is too 5 and that’s a good thing. It’s not supposed to be easy at that level. Just wondering how well he does now that some of his holes to his game have been exposed and fighters are able to train for him specifically.

It'll be his first main event and 5 rounder lol. He's getting dusted either way if he fights colby or usman next lmao. Dana better save his hype train and have him fight somebody else till they retire lmao.

Maybe Dana will find Khamzat a part time fighter who works as a Starbucks barista willing to get KO'd to rebuild the hype among casual fans.

i don't think he can fix himself before they zero in on his weaknesses. he's in the shark tank now and blood is in the water. this is what happens when people get rushed like this. he's not a jon jones level phenom.

Are you new to sports or something? I’ve been to football, and hockey games in our stadium, and arena where the home team got booed for stinking up the joint. But guess what?? The crowd was back for the very next game and still in love with their team. I think you’re reading way too much into this.
i dont really think mma fans have much in common with team sports fans, but maybe you're right.

Obviously Chimaev and Izzy are completely different fighters, but there are some similarities so far in their UFC runs.

Going back to when Izzy burst onto the scene he quickly rose up the rankings (made his debut in 2018, was interim champ just 14 months later).

Again, different than Chimaev, he wasn't blowing people out in the first minute every time, but he looked just as dominant and unstoppable and destined for the title.

Then he gets Gastelum, who wasn't champ but ended up being his opponent due to Rob being injured, etc... and Gastelum goes on to give him his toughest fight making him walk through hell to get the victory.

Then the aura of Izzy's dominance suddenly faded quite a bit, if Gastelum who is not even the top guy in the division could do this to him, surely the undisputed champ would do even worse, etc...

Of course we all know how that played out, Izzy came back even more dominant in his next fight, and he had the experience of a 5 round war in which he had to dig deep and earn that championship mentality.

I don't know which path Chimaev's career will go now, but if he's truly that level of special this fight and experience will only add another attribute to his arsenal.

Yes i mentioned the similarities as well. The biggest difference is that Izzy was still an elite striker at that point, while Chimaev is still raw in some areas. People said Khamzat fought like an idiot, but i really do think he fought to the best of his abilities. He obviusly did very good with the offense, but man... That striking defense was rough. Burns threw the same basic combos too.

Khamzat clearly won the 3rd. He put a stamp on it at the end when he kicked Burns to the ground and was about to secure a takedown.

“Buuuut Khamzat is a promotional darling, he gets an auto 10-8 if he looks semi active in a round.” According to Sherdog

Yeah, MMA judging is beyond bullshit these days.
3 fights last night had very questionable decisions.
