The West is atheistic. I don't care about how people 'identify'. The fact churches are closing down all across Europe is proof that Europe does not adhere to any religion, anymore. The USA is a little bit different in that church attendances are higher, but the USA is in no way a religious country.

The West is in a nihilistic, hedonistic downward spiral, and anyone who cannot see that is delusional.

Virtually all religious countries in the world today are shit. I'm not denying that. I'm also not saying that religion is the solution to everything, nor do I think that the more religious a society becomes, the better it will be. For one, it depends entirely on the religion, and I'm certainly not here to put up a defence of all religions. They're far too diverse & complicated.

And as for "Optimism", well I would think hope for a continuingly prosperous and happy future would help this "theoretical society" to prevent the spread of all this nihilism you've been talking about that you believe has engulfed the West.

It's religious people who are the most optimistic, even when living in desperate poverty. Why'd you think suicide rates are so low in the most religious countries, which are often the poorest in the world? Suicide rates are usually much higher in the wealthier countries.

The 'happiness' & 'prosperity' in the West is not going to last, not that they're even happy. The West has decided to stop having enough children to keep their societies alive, and instead decided to import people (who, funnily enough, come from deeply religious countries where they naturally have more children) to boost their population. I mean really... being so nihilistic you don't even see the value of keeping your own civilisation alive by actually having children? They don't even see the value in reproduction.
