It really just boils down to the champion is coming back not to defend against the interim champion, who has now defended the IC. You're discrediting the merit of an interim belt by doing this. They had an agreement? Who cares?

Jon can fight Stipe, no issues there, but he should have been stripped when he got hurt, just like any other champ would have. But Dana loves the idea of adding a heavyweight defense to Jones' legacy, against the greatest heavyweight ever. That's all he will say. The context of an interim champion knocking everyone out being set aside won't be mentioned. The fact that Stipe hasn't won in 4+ years and has zero wins against an active ufc fighter, completely irrelevant apparently. The argument against Jones is not difficult to make.

It's not only that he last fought 18 months ago. He has 1 fight in 4 and a half years. That's one win in 54 months.

Let that sink in:

He has fought once in 4.5 years.​

Granted, that was a win against Cyril Gane for the vacant HW title, making it his second title.

In the same amount of time, Islam Makachev has had 8 wins. Winning a title, beating the FW champion, defending his title three times.

all this one-million percent confirms is that rankings mean absolutely nothing, popularity is more important than sport, and dana is getting bad at his job. being the best is in the end relative, and it's only opinion because not all fighters fight all the guys or even the same guys. it's impossible to objectively call anyone the best. that's why you have dumbass dana sticking with jones cause he's got no one else left.
