Keosawa's Powerlifting Log

Feds for top ten 148's for a little more info

USAPL: 4
USPA: 2
APF: 1
SPF: 1
NASA: 1
ADAU: 1

Good to know--I know a few of the USAPL 148s. Joe Morrow hops around to different feds, but he's one I'd like to compete against in the future. Overall, I just want to participate in big meets with big-time lifters; as I described it to someone else, I want to do meets in which I have no chance of winning an overall title.

One day I think you'll make a very good coach.

I have to agree with everything KS has said. Loyalty is good. It's important. And lacking all too often. But a public shot like that. It's a little silly.

Going somewhere with more frequent high level competition will greatly further you as a lifter. They make the choice too easy.

He'll make a good coach or I'll make a good coach? or both? whichever...

Well I suppose you might too :)

Hey when you have details on your mini-seminar with Ed could you hit me up?? Do you think it'd be okay if I came up for that?

I'll have to check. I'm not the one setting it up and so far they've said a "private seminar" so I'm not sure. I'll ask and let you know.

Just read the article you wrote, was a good read. Can't wait for your next one!

Really glad you liked it--they posted part two last night.

Paused Bench Press
Barx20
95x8
135x8
185x8
230x13
230x9
230x9
230x10

Tricep Pushdowns, four sets

Banded Pushdowns, four sets

Neutral Grip Lat Pulldowns, five sets

Notes: Basic volume benching day. Bar-speed was unspectacular, but the weights were light. I got my reps in without aggravating my shoulder (which now feels fine), so it was a successful day. I think I'm 35 days out from my next meet, so we're down to the last month of training here.

Squats
95x8
135x5
185x5
225x4
275x4
315x4
355x4
370x4
370x4
370x8 (+5-lb. PR)

GHRs
BWx20
BWx20
BWx20

Hip Abductors, five sets

Notes: Good wrapless squat session. 370x8 is a good set, at least for me. My wrapless squat has felt much better since I started really controlling my eccentric--I now have a better feel for my descent, so when I need the boost, I can drop into the hole faster and use my stretch-reflex without falling to pieces. I also think that a deliberate eccentric will translate better to my wrapped squat, since I tend not to bounce at all out of the hole. Overall, a good performance.

I dont know what you are doing now but when you were running a more westside style were you actually doing a max squat and max deadlift day in the same week?

Something you all might not want to hear: I'm going to run my magnesium citrate trial tomorrow morning, when I wake up. If you don't know what this is going to do, google it. It's a quick and easy way to drop weight, and I'm experimenting with it for my next weight cut.

Let's just say that this time, I really am preparing my angus.

Legitimate lol.

Will be interested to see how this goes for you. You know... since I'm a fat kid.

Are you planning on gaining any weight since you'll have an easier time with weigh-ins?

Yep. I'm a big boy right now; I'm waking up most mornings at 157-158. A big part of that is because I'm on creatine now, but I'm going to try and stay on it for this last month of training. I keep telling myself, "I could make this cut from further out"--now that I have these long weigh-ins, I'm going to do it, and I'm going to come in heavier come meet-day (usually, I compete at about 155 lbs.' bodyweight).

Keo that sucks to hear about the federation drama. I've done 1 NASA meet and 2 APF meets and in Illinois the APF meets were much bigger and well run.

Also interesting to note a local bouncer I talked to recently at the bar is a UPA lifter and doing the same meet in July.

I now realize how ridiculous that sounded.

Poopwatch update: almost three hours and still waiting. Either I have some serious intestinal condition, or the shit is about to hit the fan.

Pun intended?
