Keosawa's Powerlifting Log

Yeah, I honestly could NOT figure out why I wasn't getting what he has had for a week or two here, especially since I didn't even know anything was up symptom-wise until Keo flat-out told me. I had mono about three years ago.

Mono is a pain (literally), hopefully this will be something Keo's system fights off soon. I do get to take care of him now (the girly part of me kind of likes this). This basically probably only means attempting to make him let me make him omelets. Keo is a trooper.

Sorry about the mono! Take care of yourself Keo!

Mono? Son of a beeeeotch

get well soon dude

Thanks everyone!

Rest up.

Don't lose too much weight.

Well, I'm taking Keo out to eat tonight for what may be an epic cheat meal for myself; I owe him, he deserves it and even seems to be rather game for it, so I'm not incredibly worried about Keo losing "too much" weight. I don't think I lost any when I had mono.

For the first little while I had it, my throat was literally too sore to eat.

I've been through mono.

Just sayin'.

Will do. I lead an easy life, so the former won't be difficult. My calories dropped to around 1700-1800 this week, so I'm going to try to get my intake up a little. If I drop weight--and strength--because I'm not eating enough, then the onus is on me.

I'm not going to lie: it's a real chore right now to eat. However, hot, salty foods seem to make my throat feel a little better. It's definitely not pleasant, but I'm just going to deal with it.

I wasn't lifting at the time, so I wasn't as concerned with eating like I do now, but (IIRC) I went through a lot of mushy cereal, milk and mashed potatoes.

Hot n salty ?

Kinky. Get better soon, sir.

I didn't know mono was a thing until quite recently (maybe we have a different name for it in the UK). So when I started hearing the term, I thought of the end of this bit of the Simpsons:

Although it remains appropriate- "Mono- doh!".

Jaunty, it's gladular fever here in the UK (infectious mononucleosis).

Get well soon, Keo!

I remember in your old log you posted progress photos when you where about 180lbs (I think). Pretty crazy transformation your body has made.

Thanks man. I'll try.

My personal favorite episode. Thank you so much for bringing this back to my attention.

Thanks! Trust me, I'm trying.

Yeah--I leaned out considerably and managed to keep most of whatever muscle I had in the process. I also got a lot stronger during the process, which can probably be attributed to the fact that my training just got smarter over time.

Tate Press?

Yep. Sorry, I never know what to call these. I'm just using "Tate Press" from now on.

I admit that I wasn't quite feeling 100% today--I think I was running a low-grade fever--but my strength wasn't affected much. My energy's still holding up well and my throat didn't give me any problems. Lifting actually seemed to reduce the swelling of my tonsils a bit, which has made it easier for me to drink water. 410x5 wasn't happening--I barely squeaked out a fourth rep--but if I can even just hold steady over the next few weeks, I'll be very happy.

I'm going to continue to try and train as hard as possible. I know every day might not be perfect, and I know some days might be flat-out disasters, but I'm not simply going to sit at home and let my strength atrophy because other people can't drag themselves out of bed. I've lost strength due to illness once before, and I will fight very hard not to let it happen again.

Sorry, a little late to the mono party. Hope you Feel better soon Keosawa.

Getting a PR while feeling like shit is bad-ass :)

First of all, I just noticed your GHR reps being x30 at BW. I'd rupture something if I tried that. Need to step my game up.

Also, given that you are a smaller guy like me I'd like your input on the weight deal.

So most mornings I'm at around 175-77 now. There is that RAW meet in August that I'd like to use as a test cut. I don't expect to pull anything massive by then. I think, realistically, I'll probably be around 540ish in training. Mostly I just want to see how I respond to a water cut.
Basically, do you think I should stay pretty much as is and take a 10lb water cut the day prior or come down another couple of pounds with diet before August??

Great work on the under the weather 410x4. No excuses, just great squatting.

lol, thank you much.

I think the best thing to do is to lean out as much as you can without sacrificing strength. There's no "right" number for a weight cut--some people can cut a lot of weight and recover their strength, while others can't. At my last meet, I met two 165ers who were cutting from close to 185: one was so big that I would have pegged him for a 198, not even a 181. For me, I've found that anything more than 12 lbs. would be difficult to recover from, but I also don't have 24-hour weigh-ins.

If I were in your shoes and I were competing in August, I might try to drop a few pounds between now and then. If you're 175-177 in the morning, that means you're probably 177-180 at night, and that will factor into your final cut. I'd try to get closer to weight, and if you find the weight cut isn't too hard, you can put on a little weight for the next meet. That's better than discovering you just bit off more than you can chew.
