Keosawa's Powerlifting Log

Solid squatting in here as usual. I've been enjoying the videos of different sessions too.

I went online to find the NASA info for a buddy that was thinking of lifting with me, and found out that NASA added a Chicago meet the week prior to the Iowa meet, so it looks like I'll be pushing up my work by one week to lift in that one instead. Bummer!

Thanks everybody. And klonger, don't worry about it--at least you've got a meet lined up. Best of luck dude; be sure to try and get a video of your attempts!

I just came on to share a video of one of our other lifters, just because I'm so impressed with his progress. He weighs around 154 lbs. and will be cutting down to 148 for April. Here he is squatting 405 and a new PR of 415; both lifts were done without knee wraps:

He's a skinny little kid, but he's got tremendous potential in his squat and his deadlift (he recently pulled 500 for the first time). We're hoping he totals Elite at 148 lbs., and he's even got an outside shot at 1200. The only thing that holds him back is his bench press, but once he fills out his frame a bit, his lifts will go through the roof, I think.

Strong dude. He's born in 1991 according to he's youtube channel right?

Went on his channel, found deadlift video

Is that the same gym your training at, Keo? cause that blonde girl in the background makes it hard to concentrate on anything else. Allthough I guess it could help your lifts, if your trying to impress her. Anyway, thanks for the video.

Fuck that girl. There was a U. Iowa meme dedicated to her on facebook, and at one point she responded to it. We invited her to join the powerlifting team, but she had some rather nasty things to say about us being all "fat" powerlifters. She apparently is a figure competitor--and from the looks of it, she's not a particularly good one--and she has some stupid bias against powerlifting.

You always have quality stories.

Best of luck to your team mate.

Can it, you skinny fat PL'er !

All of the guys I've seen in your club are fast as fuck...

Also, she looks like she's won many jr title's in her figure comps also.

You should link this page on her fbook wall so she see's a bunch of fat PL'ers making fun of her frumpy soft body. Thickness would fuckin dominate dat bitch.

Cap'n stretchy pants, eh ?

Honestly their team is like the opposite of what a PL team should look like. Tiny, six pack laden turds that are too strong for their size. From who I've seen anyway, which has been like 3 of them.

lol @ fat powerlifter comment
is she blind or something? you cant have beauty and brains i guess lol its either one or the other

on a more serious note: strong guy!

Hey Keo, what do you think of pullups for reps (bw) vs lat pulldowns for lower reps with more weight? (5 reps~)

I'm thinking about changing up pullups for this to see how it goes next month, and wanted to see what you think about those 2.

I personally alternate between both, but I wouldn't go as far down as a five-rep max for something like a lat pulldown because the technique is likely going to be pretty lousy. I think if you're going to do lat pulldowns that heavy, you might as well do pullups or even weighted pullups; I don't see much of a point to doing near-max lat pulldown reps.

If I had to choose one, I would of course choose pullups.

My speed felt good today. I was thrilled to hit 165 (plus doubled mini-bands) for 23 repetitions on wide grip; I'm probably happier with that than I was with 135x33 last week. We're running a three-week wave in which we're waving just the bar weight this time, so I'll do 175 next week for my speed sets, plus doubled minis.
