It just shows bij has some possible flaws, especially on the lower level (white belts) and when someone is physically weaker. If he tried to do this at a higher level, let's say against a good purple belt, he probably would be submitted within one minute and then suddenly 'bjj works' .

It works both ways. The karate guy was a newbie, too.

Yes, but if you say BJJ doesn't work you should show it against someone that is at least decent at BJJ. It doesn't work so the experience shouldn't play a role.

The point he was getting at is that tournament scoring has bastardized bjj, much the same way point fighting ruined some aspects of ufc. The forcing bjj fighters to play together when fighting makes it artificial, which he demonstrates by tooling a more experienced fighter by not engaging. My brother saw the same when he showed up at a taekwondo gym and just caught people's kicks and pushed them over.

Tournament scoring is based on the best positions to strike someone.

the scoring is fine, it’s the selective “rules” within the rules that are the issue. Most refs are terrible too, even at the highest level.

The ref in the video should have dq’d the karate guy way before he even gave him a penalty.

I'm not really familiar with BJJ scoring system. Is the table below correct? Back control does not seem to be a great striking position until you establish back mount compared to knee on belly.
