One difference seems to be that you believe there is an implication that we are teaching (or at least insinuating/reinforcing/etc) that POC or less advantaged students have some sort of ceiling on their potential when we teach them that they continually need help.

This isn't reality. You know who needs help? Poor people. You know who tends to be more poor? People of Color.

Lots of people like myself grew up poor. I'm white. If it wasn't for people teaching me about the history of my area, the issues that it has, and how to change it, then I'd still be in the same situation as a lot of people I grew up with.

You have to understand, my grandfather lived 90% of his life not even having to share the same dining space as a black person. We still live in a country where our politicians are trying to gerrymander black voters so their votes don't count. We live in a world were many of the congressmen in this country voted against Gay people being able to get a piece of paper that said they were married. Chuck Grassley was 31 years old in 1964.

Republicans support whitewashing history and what happened to entire race of people because they are worried about some white people getting their feelings hurt. Getting upset about teaching people the truth about racism in America would be like people in Kentucky getting mad that schools taught the history of company towns.
