Shapiro would have helped more, but Walz has broad appeal, and it's probably partly a likeability thing. Might just be a consideration that there isn't much difference between them, but she's picking the person she'd rather spend a lot of time with. Also, the candidates are vetted extremely carefully, and it might be that there are fewer potential scandals. We've had dullards and people with bad views, but we haven't had an actual crook VP since Agnew, and that's not a coincidence.

Just crooks as potus, lately. IMO, trump chose boring ass pence to balance out his high energy and hot takes while people need to check pence from time to time for a pulse. I agree that this pick is probably as you stated, and I agree that there are other picks that would have yielded more benefits.

Easy to underestimate that compatibility thing. She has to consider working with the guy for 4 to 8 years. And, yeah, the number one thing with the VP choice is do no harm.

Also Shapiro has apparently agreed to help and be a voice for them, which I am sure they came to as a mutual agreement in the process. He’ll likely be offered a cabinet position if she wins.

And he is 100% wrong. The first amendment guarantees free speech even when it is hateful and hurtful whether he likes it or not. Especially whether the government likes it or not. It’s the whole purpose of the first amendment-to be able to speak your mind without government interference or penalties. Now, that doesn’t mean that with the first amendment there are no consequences for hate speech or misinformation. You can be sued and/or face public scorn and as social media/justice warriors have shown, if they can figure out who you are, they will ensure that you have consequences in your personal life such as making you lose your job. He did it at the same time he signed multiple gender legislation including making Minnesota pretty much a sanctuary state for kids who want puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transgender surgeries. Also allowing the state to take kids away from parents if they refuse to give them "gender affirming care". The Minnesota department of education encourages schools to "affirm" the kids gender even when parents disagree.
